Jonathan was a "torie captured by Whigs in Hempstead Swamp" in

the British conquered Long Island in the Revolution. He, a prominent loyalist,
he had three daughters married to British soldiers but not until the was was
over. He was a vestryman of St. George's Episcopal Church, 1799-1802.
