Lamb's work state that this family moved around a lot, but Lamb is difficult to follow. bullet Alexander CAMPBELL was born on 29 Dec 1806 in Campbeltown, Argylshire, Scotland. (1464) Parents: Dugald (Dougald) CAMPBELL and Margaret MACLARTY .

bullet Catherine CAMPBELL was born on 5 May 1804 in Campbeltown, Argylshire, Scotland. (1465)(1466) Although her actually birthday is 5 May 1804, it was stated to be 9 May 1804 according to the Boston Herald article marking her 100th birthday, "Century Mark of Life. Mrs. Langlands, Whose Mother Was Honored by the Dyke of Argyle at Similar Age, Vigorous for Centenarian." In the 1850 Census, however, a greater difference was noted. Catherine was only 39 when it was taken, born about 1811, not 1804 as proven. The Boston Herald article cites the names of Catherine's parents as Daniel and Mary, and her death certificate reports her parents were Daniel CAMPBELL and Mary TAYLOR (information provided by her son-in-law, John F. Young), however, I do not believe that these were her parents at all. Campbeltown birth records (456) only list one Catherine Campbell around this date, born 5 May 1804 to Duglad CAMPBELL and Margaret MACLARTY. She was baptised on 8 May 1804 in Campbeltown, Argylshire, Scotland. (1467) She emigrated in 1835 to Massachusetts. (1465) She resided 9 Fruit Street before 1907 in Newburyport, Essex, MA.(1468) She died on 18 Jun 1907 in Newburyport, Essex, MA.(1468) (1469) Her death certificate said she died of "senility" with gastric irritation. The obit in the paper the next day (557) said she died "today." On her last day of life, she said, "I shall not live to see the sun set." Stearns (672) says she died 7 Jul 1907 but that is less credible. She was buried on 20 Jun 1907 in Newbury, Essex, MA. (1468) She was a Housewife in Newburyport, Essex, MA. (1468) She was.(1469) "She was a devout Christian and was always active in the church." She attended Sunday services regularly even after turning 100. According to her obituary, Catherine "was a woman of marked characteristics, always standing for what was right and good and expressing her disapproval of everything wrong ... She loved her homeland ... She was a most loving mother and was never happier than when surrounded by her children and grandchildren." Parents: Dugald (Dougald) CAMPBELL and Margaret MACLARTY .

bullet Dugald (Dougald) CAMPBELL

He married to Margaret MACLARTY on 5 Jul 1803 in Campbeltown, Argylshire, Scotland. (1465)(1472) Parents of Catherine Campbell may be:
1) My search of the Campbeltown church records strongly suggests that her parents are Dugald Campbell and Margaret MacLarty, which also agrees with the IGI. Regarding possible parents for Dugald: If he was born in 1776, then his parents were Donald Campbell and Mary McEwine. If he was born in 1781, then his parents were Duncan Campbell and Ann Campbell (456).
2) Two secondary sources suggests otherwise. The article on Catherine's 100th birthday states that her parents were Daniel and Mary. Stearns (672) says her father was Daniel Campbell.

Cousin Edgar SPEAR says the family was well off. According to reference 158, Daniel and Mary had 17 children, but only names Mary and Catherine.
Children were: Mary CAMPBELL, Catherine CAMPBELL, Alexander CAMPBELL, Charles CAMPBELL.

bullet Mary CAMPBELL was born about 1796.(1465) Could this have been through a previous marriage? She died in 1899 in Campbeltown, Argylshire, Scotland.(1465) Parents: Dugald (Dougald) CAMPBELL and Margaret MACLARTY.

It was 1884 according to he marriage record. Either way, her conception, and possibly her birth, predate the 13 May 1885 marriage of her parents. Alice's marriage record says John is her father. Maybe he was not. Children were: Alice CAREY, John CAREY, Frank CAREY, Gertrude Francelia CAREY, Clarence CAREY, Edna I. CAREY, Harry CAREY, Agnes CAREY.

bullet Nettie R CAREY was born about 1867 in Colrain, Franklin, MA. (173)(1477) Nettie's surname is somewhat mysterious. I have FOUR possibilities. It was:
- CAREY according to her marriage record (350) and a letter from cousin Marion Hodgdon (259) that states that she is the son of Dan CAREY and that her husband, John CAREY, is her uncle. I find this the most trustworthy.
· CARPENTER, according to her daughter Gertrude's Social Security application (38).
· BURROUGHS, according to her daughter's marriage license (256).
· BORRIS, according to her husband John CAREY's obit (317). She died before 1953.(1480) Parents: Daniel CAREY and Lydia.

She married to John Heenan CAREY on 13 May 1885 in Halifax, Windham, VT. bullet James CHILTON was born about 1556 in Canterbury, Kent, England. (1500) The birthplace is noted as a "probably." He took the oath of a freeman in 1583 in Canterbury, Kent, England. (306) He moved before Jul 1615 to Leiden, Holland. By 1615 or as early as 1610, James was living in Holland with his wife and at least some of his children. He was ill with stoned, with daughter Isabella, in front of his house during anti-Arminian riot on 28 Apr 1619 in Leiden, Holland. (1501)(306) The religion of the Pilgrims was rooted in the English Puritan movement. They rejected the teachings of both the Catholic Church and Church of England. While residing in Holland, their beliefs were hotly debated at the University of Leiden and were staunchly opposed by some groups such as the Arminians. By 1619, the Pilgrims were verbally and sometimes physically assaulted by opponents. On 28 Apr 1619, James Chilton was stoned by a group of youths in front of his house and nearly lost his life, requiring surgury. The assault on the 63 year old James Chilton is considered by historians to has caused the Pilgrims to feel unwelcome in Holland and one of the reasons they emigrated to New England. Soon after the assualt, the Pilgrims decided to immigrate to a safer refuge.

He emigrated in 1620 to Plymouth, Plymouth Colony. (1502)(306) (1503)(1504) James Chilton came on the Mayflower wife wife Susanna and just one of his children, his youngest child Mary. James was the oldest of the 102 passengers aboard the Mayflower. James signed the Mayflower Compact, one of the earliest documents from which the American Democratic process originated. He and his wife were among the first to die " in the first infection" after reaching the America leaving Mary, my ancestor, an orphan. He died on 8 Dec 1620 in Provincetown Harbor. (1505)(306) The death took place on the Mayflower itself. Some sources list the death as the 6th or 18th of December, the later is based upon an incorrect calendar change calculation. There were 102 passengers who sailed from England on the Mayflower. However, four died at Provincetown harbor (including James Chilton), one died at sea, one was born at Provincetown Harbor, and one was born at sea, so there were thus 99 that "stayed." He was a tailor. (1506)(306) Parents: Lyonell CHILTON.

He married to Susanna before 1586.(1507) (1508) Children were: Isabella CHILTON , Jane CHILTON, Joel CHILTON , Mary CHILTON, Elizabeth CHILTON, James CHILTON, Ingle CHILTON, Christian CHILTON, James CHILTON, Mary CHILTON.
