Family lore suggests that John's parents died in Sweden.

Family lore holds that John eventually went back to Sweden, but before doing so, he gave his children away to _______, a family in Maine who raised the sisters as farmlands.

She married to Ralph Stanwood SPEAR 1935 to 1942 in New York, New York, NY.⁽³⁷¹⁾ Ralph met Lillian in the 1940s. She had a job walking Ralph's dogs. When Lillian was just a baby, her mother died and her father went back to Sweden. Lillian and her sister ______, who was two years older, were kept as farmlands in near slave-like condition and may have been sexually abused as well. In 1939, the sisters left the farm and moved to New Britain, CT (?). Lillian worked there as a housekeeper, then for a catering company. Her sister died in New Britain of tuberculosis.

Lillian was tough, but good hearted and wonderful with children and animals. She enjoyed gardening.

According to Trubull (676) her father, William ANDREWS, was Constable of Newton MA in Oct 1636 but in Hartford by 1639/40. She resided before 1655 in Farmington, Hartford, CT.⁽³⁷³⁾ She died in 1660 in Hartford, Hartford, CT.⁽³⁷⁴⁾

She married to Edward GRANNIS on 3 May 1655 in Hartford, Hartford, CT.⁽³⁷⁵⁾⁽³⁷⁶⁾⁽³⁷⁷⁾⁽³⁷⁸⁾ Strong contradicts himself and also cites 3 May 1654. This date is also cited by Andrews (645). The genealogist Frederick Strong states, "Edward and his family do not seem to have been in accord with some of the church-made laws of the Puritans and they did not hesitate to act in opposition to what they probably regarded as unreasonable restriction of personal liberty." I suspect that this Joseph was among the original founders of Haddam along with my other ancestors Gerard SPENCER and James BATES. Trubull (676) calls him one of the first settlers of Haddam. He died on 22 Oct 1691 in East Haddam, Middlesex, CT.⁽⁴⁵⁸⁾⁽⁴⁵⁹⁾ He left, according to his inventory, £151 on 2 Mar 1692 in Haddam, Middlesex, CT.⁽⁴⁶⁰⁾ He had an estate probated in Mar 1693.⁽⁴⁶¹⁾ The court recorded an agreement whereby John, Joseph, and Jonathan received 11 £ each. Josiah received 118 £ out of which he must pay 10 £ to each of his tow sisters and pay all debts. There was no provision for the widow but a "caution that if the woman see cause she shall have her thirds of the profits during her life." Parents: John ARNOLD and Susannah.

Samuel ARNOLD was born in 1668 in Haddam, Middlesex, CT.⁽⁴⁷⁵⁾ He Slave or indentured servant owner Owned at least 8 negro slaves: Price, his wife Cato, Sampson, Caeser, Japhet, Rose, Peter, and Lois. before 1739 in East Haddam, Middlesex, CT. He mentions 8 slaves in his will:

I, Samuel Arnold of East Haddam, husbandman, do make this my last will and testament: I give unto my beloved wife Abigail 1-3 part of my moveable estate (excepting my negro SLAVES), to her, her heirs and assigns forever, and also the use of 1-3 part of my lands, house, barn, orchard or other commodity appertaining to my sd. land, to use and improve during her natural life. I give to my son Samuel Arnold one lot of land lying in the 3rd division of land in East Haddam, 43 1-2 acres more or less, north on the land of Sergt. Samuel Andrews, and east and west on highways or commons, and south on a highway, to him, his heirs and assigns forever, as his or their own proper inheritance in fee simple, and also my negro man SERVANT named Prince, ye 5th son of my eldest man SERVANT named Prince and of Cate his wife, and also my will is that the aforesaid SERVANT shall at my decease be in the hands of my executors and by them to be put in the hands of my son Samuel if they shall judge it best for him to have the sd. SERVANT but if my sd. executors shall judge it best to sell the sd. SERVANT and my sd. son to have ye money, then my will is that my executors shall sell my sd. Samuel Ackley, containing about 60 acres be it more or less; and also 20 acres out of two lotts of land in the 5th and 8th divisions, to him and his heirs forever; and also my negro man SERVANT named Sampson. John ATCHISON moved in 1672 to Hatfield, Hampshire, MA.⁽⁴⁹²⁾ He died on 19 Sep 1677 in Hatfield, Hampshire, MA.⁽⁴⁹³⁾⁽⁴⁹⁴⁾ He was killed in an Indian massacre. He . During the continuance of what is usually termed "King Phillip's War," the inhabitants of these isolated frontier towns were naturally filled with forebodings of danger to their homes and families. For their own protection and safety, the inhabitants of Northampton, Hadley and Hatfield practically united for mutual defense and assistance. These three towns were occupied by troops from the eastern portion of the Colony of Massachusetts Bay. At Northampton 26 soldiers were located, at Hadley 30, and at Hatfield 36. This was the most exposed, as it was the frontier town. Then they had a committee, called a council of war, chosen from the several towns. Among them was Sergeant Isaac Graves. The object of this council of war was to render better security to the inhabitants of the several towns. They counselled with the commander, Major Appleton, relative to the ways and means best to be used for the protection of life and property.
August 25, 1675, a scouting party of ten was sent out and fell into an ambuscade, and nine were killed. Then on the 17th of September we find that Captain Lathrop and his company and several teamsters from Deerfield were attacked and massacred. Only a few escaped; sixty-four were buried in one grave as the result of the "Bloody Brook" fight. Seventeen of the sixty-four were Deerfield men. In consequence of the numerous attacks by the Indians, the people, with the view of better protection, built a stockade, probably in the autumn of the year 1675, composed of posts of timber set in the ground, and about ten feet high. This stockade was built on both sides of Main street, some twelve or fifteen rods from the east and west lines of the street, extending north from the Northampton road, not far from 100 rods. This stockade enclosed the bulk of the village. The houses of Isaac and John Graves were within the stockade. Unfortunately for them, on the 19th of September, 1677, they were both employed in building a house for John Graves, Jr., about a half a mile above the northerly end of the stockade, on a lot adjoining that of Sergeant Benjamin Waite. WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR THOUGHT OF DANGER THEY WERE ATTACKED BY THE INDIANS, AND ISAAC AND JOHN SHOT DOWN WHILE ENGAGED, AS ONE TRADITION HAS IT, "in laying shingles on the roof the house," and with them were likewise two other men who were working with them, JOHN ATCHINSON and John Cooper. Eight others were killed, and we presume scalped, as the account speaks of them as being disfigured, and seventeen were made prisoners. All but one, Obadiah Dickinson, were women and children.****

He married to Deliverance before 1673 in Hadley, Hampshire, MA.⁽⁴⁹⁵⁾ A possible point of confusion is that the Ancestral File has his son John married to Dorcas BURT. Children were: Elizabeth ATCHISON, Mary (or Mercy) ATCHISON, John ATCHISON, Benomi ATCHISON.

John ATCHISON died in 1738 in Brimfield, Hampden, MA.⁽⁴⁹⁶⁾ Parents: John ATCHISON and Deliverance.
