When he was publicly confronted about his letter writing, Lyford denied the act

According to Coleman's 1892 genealogy (503), there is a record of a Henry
LYMAN who married a Phyllis SCOTT and had the following children: Richard (bap
1580, sailed to America 1631), Henry, and Simon. If this is my Henry and my Richard,
it would make a marriage to Elizabeth impossible. Coleman does not attempt to
pronounce which is the correct mother of Richard Lyman saying "Both records
agree in the essential facts relating to Richard our ancestor and the reader
id left to his own conclusions." When conclusive evidence was later found,
Donald Lines Jacobus was prompted to write an article called "The Mother
of Richard Lyman of Hartford, Connecticut." In the article, Jacobus lays
out the evidence that proves that his mother was Elizabeth RANDE. When Elizabeth
RANDE died in 1587, she left henry with several children to care for. These may
have included (some may have died before 1587): Richard (age 7), Henry (age 2),
Agnes (age 2), and Sarah (age 3 months). Parents:
Henry LYMAN and Joan.He married to Elizabeth RANDE about 1577.(6175) (6176) (6177)(6178) I assumed that they were married one year prior to the birth of their first child. Only Trumbull (676) calls her Phillis, but then he gives Henrys death as the date of his marriage. Children were: Judith LYMAN, Jane LYMAN, Richard LYMAN I, Henry LYMAN, Agnes LYMAN, Sarah LYMAN.
He married to Phyllis STANE on 15 Jun 1587.(6179) (6180)(6181) He married Phyllis Scane only two months after Elizabeth was buried. Siemiatkoski (627) says it was 19 Jun 1587. Holman (616) says it was about 1576 but does not even attempt to separate the children from each mother suggesting not much thought went into the marriage date. Children were: Henry LYMAN, William LYMAN, Phyllis LYMAN .
Henry
LYMAN was christened on 19 Nov 1581 in High Ongar, Essex, England.
(6182)(6183)
