to Albert Eugene HALLADAY on 26 Mar 1895 in Williamsville,

(4168) My list of children for Albert and Hannah is very likely to
be incomplete.
Around 1947, when Albert turned 82, he took up carving detailed farm equipment
in wood using jackknife and hacksaw: oxen-pulled sleds carrying maple syrup,
manure dumpwagons, and hand tools. He was still carving three years later at
85, up to 12 hours in a day. Although he has given some of his carvings away
as gifts, he never chose to sell any. His hobby led to a couple articles in the
local newspaper (294, 295).
Children were: Burton Charles HALLADAY,

Josiah
POWERS was born on 4 Oct 1770 in MA or NH.

calculated from the age in days at death. His death record say he was born in
Plymouth, Plymouth, MA, but the 1850 census says he was born in NH. He appeared
on the census in 1800 in Marlboro, Windham, VT.
(7249) It would appear that Josiah POWERS was the first POWERS in
Marlboro as he is the only one in the 1800 census. The following are living with
in his household:

The value of real estate $600 and personal estate $429. The census shows that
at this time Lyman (26, Farmer) was living with Amanda Powers (20) and Edwin
Baldwin (18), Farmer. I am unsure of the relationship any any of these people.
Amanda may have been a first wife, or perhaps she is his sister. Who is Edwin
Baldwin? He served as a in 1863 in Civil War (Union).

about mid-May at Massachusetts Bay. He moved between 15 May 1635 and 1 Jan
1636 to Plum Island, Ipswich, Essex, MA.(7293)
He Purchased property between 15 May 1635 and 1647 in Ipswich, Essex,
MA.(7294)
(7295) According to Proctor (711), purchased property once before
1635 and again before 1647. The latter he sold in exchange for a farm on 1 May
1647."He became one of the 27 richest inhabitants who had two shares in
Plum Island, in 1664." He moved about 1668 to Salem, Essex, MA.
(7296) Accounts differ as to when he moved to Salem (474, 711). I
have assumed that he moved at the time that he sold his Ipswich property. He
Sold marshland on 1 Sep 1668 in Ipswich, Essex, MA.
(7297) The transaction includes the statement, "I John Prockter
Senior of Jubaque (Chebacco) in Ipswich ... Yeoman," which established his

(7306) He was described as He was a large

According to Leland Proctor (625), the marriage record appearing in the
Ipswich Vital records, "Martha w. John, June 13, 1659," has generally
been assumed to refer to a second wife of John Proctor Sr. This would seem quite
the coincidence that after marrying first Martha HARPER, John Sr. would marry
a second woman named Martha. In fact, Leland Proctor claims this is incorrect:
"There is little to support the idea that the Martha Proctor (nee Harper)
who came with him from England is not the same Martha he named in his will."
Proctor says this second Martha was the first wife of John Proctor Jr (accused
witch). Leland Proctor ascribes her death three days after the birth of her son
Benjamin to complications during childbirth. Parents:
John PROCTOR and Elizabeth STAUNTON.He married to Martha HARPER on 1 Jun 1630 in London, England. (7308) Children were: John PROCTOR, Marie PROCTOR, Joseph PROCTOR, Abigail PROCTOR, Joseph PROCTOR, Benjamin PROCTOR, Martha PROCTOR, Sarah PROCTOR, Hannah PROCTOR, Benjamin PROCTOR.
John
PROCTOR was christened on 9 Oct 1631 in Assington, Suffolk, England.
(7309) Assington is 5 miles from London.
Pioneers of Massachusetts says he was born in London. He emigrated about 15
May 1635 to Massachusetts Bay Colony.(30)
(7310) He came aboard the Susan and
Ellen at 3 with his parents and sister Mary. The ship departed London 13 Apr
1635 and arrived safe about mid-May at Massachusetts Bay. He died on 19 Aug
1692 in Salem, Essex, MA.(7311)
(7312)(7313)
(7314) John PROCTOR was a successful
farmer and tavern keeper who lived far from Salem Village, on the edge of Salem
town. He had risen to considerable wealth and prestige (a tavern keeper was a
very respectable position). He had never been involved in village politics, but
opposed the village elite. The PUTNAMs, who may have considered him an outsider,
disliked him. His second wife, Elizabeth Thorndike PROCTOR, was among the first
arrested for witchcraft. John Proctor initially testified against her (perhaps
their marriage was rocky) but as the witchcraft hysteria grew, he retracted his
testimony and found himself accused of witchcraft and imprisoned. During his
own trial, a conversation that he had had when he met Samuel Sibley on the road
to Salem Village did not help. He had expressed skepticism about the alleged
"fits" of the girls and the validity of the witchcraft trials, "if
the girls were left to their own devices, "we should all be devils and witches
quickly." A petition for their release was signed by 32 of his Ipswich neighbors,
testifying to the goodness of their character. [What did John say in his own
defense?] John made out his will while in prison directing his property to be
divided equally among his children (about 17 £ each). John and Elizabeth
were tried, found guilty, and scheduled to be executed 19 Aug 1692. John was
hung but, due to her pregnancy, Elizabeth's execution was stayed until after
she had the baby. The child was born in prison. Soon after, the hysteria had
ceased so Elizabeth and her children, Bassett and William, were released from
prison. Four years later, however, Widow Procter had to beseech the Legislature
for her husband's furniture from forfeiture. Parents:
John PROCTOR Yeoman and Martha HARPER.He married to Martha in 1651. (7315)
John
PROCTOR died in Mar 1648 in Kensington. Middlesex, England. Parents:
