David Hamilton attended a town meeting on 8 Apr 1753 in which it was proposed to divide the town and form a new religious society in its eastern half. The meeting was adjourned for one hour while John and two others went off to set a line. Perhaps John lived on the eastern half of town. The new church would not be built however for many years due to various disagreements among townspeople. In 1754, Ebenezer FRISBIE (another ancestor) was part of a committee to secure a Minster to replace Rev. Searl whose health was failing. Searl ended his pastoral duties in June 1754 and David HAMILTON was among those chosen at a town meeting to speak to him about abating his salary. Searl left Sharon due to his health.

The population of Sharon was 1196 in 1756 and about 2000 in 1842 (235). It was 950 in 1990. By 1898, Alvin had left his family in Wisconsin for the war in the Philippines. On 6 Nov 1898, Alvin mailed his father Charles a post card from Camp Otis, Honolulu, Hawaii, which says, "My Dear Father, Transports Ohio and Indiana arrived yesterday. We will go aboard tomorrow mourning and all three sail on Wednesday ____. Respectfully, your aff. son, [signed A.H. Blood], 18th Infantry." Alvin was a field musician (bugler). In 1899, after the war ended, Alvin returned to his parents' home (6, 44).
