He appeared on the U.S. Census in 1860 in , Itawamba, Mississippi, USA.⁽¹²⁾ Listed as a son at the age of 21. He appeared on the U.S. Census in 1870 in , Itawamba, Mississippi, USA.⁽¹³⁾ Listed as the head of household at age 28 and born in South Carolina. He appeared on the U.S. Census in 1880 in , Lee, Mississippi, USA. ⁽¹⁹⁾ Listed as head of household at the age of 41, his birth place as South Carolina, his father's birth place as North Carolina, and his mother's as South Carolina. This census listing is found in the Lee county records, but is listed in the index for Pontotoc county Mississippi. The enumeration district given, Ed 92, Vol 12, Sh 9, Line 1, is a Lee county number. Ben Gregory's book, page 257, William is shown as 3rd child to Alfred Gregory and Sarah Mann. He also states that William married Frances E. G. Ballard. The marriage records for Itawamba county lists her as Frances E. P. Peter and not Ballard.

A guardianship entry from Lee county wills, states the following information concerning W. H. Gregory: "Cause #539 - Alfonso Carr, minor, with neither parent living. W. H. Gregory, near kin, guardian of personal Estate. Filed 15 Jan 1874. Discharge ordered 10 May 1877." This entry may be about the Alfonso listed living with William's mother in the 1870 census at age 8. The census doesn't help us with the identification of Alfonso. This entry requires some research.

(Fannie) PETER was born on 4 May 1846. ⁽⁵⁾ Birth is based on her grave marker, her age given in several records places her birth in the range of 1844-1847. She appeared on the U.S. Census in 1860 in , Itawamba, Mississippi, USA.⁽¹²⁾ Listed with her parents, William and Susan Peter, at the age of 13 and born in South Carolina. She appeared on the U.S. Census in 1870 in , Itawamba, Mississippi, USA.⁽¹³⁾ Listed as wife at the age of 25 and born in South Carolina. She appeared on the U.S. Census in 1880 in , Lee, Mississippi, USA.⁽¹⁹⁾ Listed as wife of William at the age 36, born in South Carolina. She appeared on the U.S. Census in 1900 in , Lee, Mississippi, USA. ⁽²⁰⁾ Listed as the wife to William, at the age 56, born May 1844 in South Carolina. She has been married 38 years, her parents were both born in South Carolina. The entry for the number of children born and living appear to be 9, the numbers are hard to read, but the information obtained indicate that Francis has had 10 children with 9 still living in 1900. She appears to be named for her grandmother on her mother's side. No other information has been obtained about Susan outside of the census data.

Ben Gregory states in his book that the cemetery record for a Molly Gregory was the daughter of Hugh Gregory and Nancy Turner. But a review of cemetery records for Glenwood Cemetery, Lee County, Mississippi, indicates that the Mary (Molly) here is not the daughter of Hugh and Nancy. She is the daughter of William H. and Frances Gregory and is buried along side of her brothers and their spouses.
