She was born on 4 Apr 1853 in , Itawamba, Mississippi, USA.⁽⁵⁾ She appeared on the U.S. Census in 1860 in , Itawamba, Mississippi, USA. ⁽¹²⁾ Listed as a daughter at the age of 7 and born in Mississippi. She died on 5 Apr 1936 in Tupelo, Lee, Mississippi, USA. ⁽⁵⁾ She was buried in Priceville Cemetery, , Lee, Mississippi, USA. ⁽⁵⁾ Listed in Ben Gregory's book as the 10th child on page 257. Ben lists her birth as 4 Apr 1846, this is in error, for that year would place her as the 7th child not 10th.

Mary died during a Tornado near Tupelo, Mississippi. One of Mary and Joseph's daughters, Mary Josephine, and her husband, Robert Lummus, died in the same tornado that killed Mary. The tornado, which hit Tupelo on 5 April 1936, killed over 200 people. It is said that three Lummus daughters required hospitalization, a fourth was less severly injured.

She was married to Joseph Henry CARNATHAN (son of ) on 14 Jan 1869 in , Lee, Mississippi, USA. ⁽³⁰⁾ Joseph Henry CARNATHAN was born on 16 Jan 1845.⁽⁵⁾ He appeared on the U.S. Census in 1860 in , Itawamba, Mississippi, USA. ⁽¹²⁾ Listed with is mother at the age of 15. He died on 2 Mar 1897. ⁽⁵⁾ He was buried in Priceville Cemetery, , Lee, Mississippi, USA.⁽⁵⁾ Mary Adilia GREGORY and Joseph Henry CARNATHAN had the following children:
