Gregory is listed as 7 males; Hugh (Sr.), Francis Marion, Henry, Starks, Charles

A partial extraction relating to Hugh Gregory from "A Gregory Family in
America" by Forrest Reed, 1944, follows.
"The first Gregory of this family, of whom the living descendants have
definite knowledge, was Hugh Gregory of South Carolina. He was born in that
state on May 14, 1815, presumably in Union County where he lived before moving
to Mississippi.
While living in South Carolina. Hugh Gregory was married to Nancy Turner
who was born in that state on September 3, 1825.
Hugh Gregory and his family, with several relatives and friends, migrated
from Union County to Mississippi in 1845. They settled southeast of what is
now Tupelo where Hugh Gregory became a farm manager for Dr. Hussey, a large plantation
owner. Dr. Hussey's plantation was later in Lee County but it probably was in
Itawamba County in 1845. At that time neither Tupelo nor Lee County existed.
Lee was formed from Itawamba and Pontotoc Counties in 1866.
Hugh Gregory became the owner of 800 acres near Ballardsville in Itawamba
County, his land adjoining the Lee County line. His land is surveyed in Itawamba
County Plat Book Pg. 174, "Hugh Gregory S.E. 1/4 S10 T10 R7 Surveyed: 15
Jan 1847 by Wm. D. Thomason Chain Carriers: John Sandlin and Issac Sandlin".
This acreage was near Bogefala Creek and only three or four miles from Mooreville,
a town in Lee County which used to be called Mooresville.
When Hugh Gregory died, his plantation consisting of 800 acres was divided
among his nine children then living. Each heir received 80 acres except Henry
to whom was left 160 acres because the tract he received was considered less
valuable.
Hugh Gregory was a Whig before the Civil War and opposed secession, but
like many other Southerners he went with his state when it left the Union and
he became a soldier for a while in the Confederate Army. He was 46 years old
when the war began. His physical description by those who knew him indicated
that he was a man of medium stature with red hair and blue eyes.
He and his wife were Baptists. He died March 16, 1886, and his wife, Nancy
Turner Gregory, died September 3, 1889. Both were buried at Bogefala Cemetery,
about one-half mile north of Mooreville. Tombstones mark the location of their
graves."
He was married to Nancy TURNER about 1841.(14)
All of the children of Hugh and Nancy Gregory were married and reared families
with the exception of Henry, Halliard, George, and Molly. Many of the descendants
are living in either Itawamba or Lee County. Generally speaking, they were of
medium stature and red-complexioned. Most of them had dark red hair and brown
or blue eyes.
