First Appears on tax rolls of Murderkill Hundred, Kent Co., Del in
1757, 1758, 1759 single. In 1760 the (s)
is gone indicating that Moses had married within the year. He is shown
on the tax rolls through 1776.
Moses Ratledge is listed on the French & Indian War rolls for Delaware
in 1757.
In 1776, Moses signed as a witness to his brother Thomas Ratledge's
estate settlement which named James Ratledge as Thomas' heir and next
of kin.
John Ratledge deeded land to his son Moses in 1768. Then in 1770 Moses
purchased land from a Caleb Luff In 1772 Moses sold land to Jonathan
Finsthwurst and 1773 to George Gullet. He again bought land in
1779 from George Gullet.
1783 Tax Records for Kent Co.,Del. Murderkill Hundred shows Moses
Ratledge.
Moses Ratledge does not appear on the 1790 census reconstructed from
tax records and is thought to have traveled to North Carolina with his
brother James Ratledge about 1786. They appear on the Tax List in
Rowan Co., NC. in 1787 in Aeneas Campbell's company.
Moses Ratledge 1 wh male 21-60, 2 wh male -21 or +60, 5 wh females
Since a will was written in 1802 in Kent Co., Deleware and it was
probated there in 1804 we know he returned with his family sometime
before that He is not, however, found in Murderkill Hundred 1800
census.
