Alexander Martin Booe

was born on Jan 4 1821 in Rowan County, NC. He was buried in Mar 1895 in Davie County, North Carolina. He died on Mar 26 1895 in Rowan County, North Carolina. BIOGRAPHY
He was born 5 miles south of Mocksville near the Old Dutch meeting
House. He was a boy when his father died and he went to live with his
uncle, Ben March, on Dutchman's Creek. He learned how to make tobacco
and after his marriage became a tobacco manufacturer at Mocksville.
The Tobacco Factory stood about where the Durham House is located now.
Mrs. Miller, daughter of A.M. Booe inherited the corner lot, on which
the dwelling unit was built. The factory was moved back of the house
on the present Milling Road, formerly Mud Mill Road. It was converted
into a barn by the Millers. A log cabin on Milling Road near the
Negro Cemetery, belonged to the A.M. estate. He owned land along
Huntsville Road. or main street in this area, lots including the land
on which the Baptist Church Stands and the lot now occupied by the
school gymnasium. He finally sold his business and devoted his time
to the management of his farm on Dutchman's Creek, though his house
was at Mocksville. One of the largest Negro communities in the
country was in Booetown, named for A. M. Booe. Served as Costable,
Mocksville. Served as Sheriff in 1850. Capt. of Home Guards.
