Almron J. Stfford was the first County Clerk of Forsyth County,
serving in that capacity for twelve years. He also was a member of the
first Board of Commissioners for the City of Winston. According to
The Roster of Confederate Soldiers, Vol. XIV, page 392 (Broadfoot
Publishing Co.); North Carolina Confederate Militia Officers Roster As
Contained in the Adjutant-General's Officers Roster edited by Stephen
E. Bradley, Jr., 1992 and Death Notices from the "Peoples Press",
cited above, he held the rank of Brigadier General in the 17th Brigade
of the North Carolina Militia.The Death Notices also state he became
ill due to exposure and suffered paralysis while rendering service to
sick and wounded NC troops in the Valley of Virginia (near
Harrisonburg, VA) and died there on Oct. 3,1863. Parents: James Stafford and Elizabeth Monroe.
