bulletJohn Stafford was born in 1756 in Sussex County, Delaware. He was buried in Aug 1846 in Forsyth County Winston-Salem, NC. He died on Aug 1 1846. BIOGRAPHY
The evidence strongly suggests that Sarah and John Stafford
migrated from Sussex County, Delaware and settled, circa 1800, in the
Salem District of Stokes County, North Carolina. The Salem District,
redesignated the South Forks District in 1820, became part of Forsyth
County on January 16, 1849.
Both John and Samuel, who purchased land in Stokes County in 1803 and
more in 1810, are listed in the Stokes County 1810 census. John and
James are listed in the 1820, 1830 and 1840 Stokes County census.
Samuel, who is not listed in the 1820 or 1830 Stokes census, is listed
again in the 1840 Stokes census.

Family Cemetery were located, prior to January 1849, in Stokes
CO., NC (Salem/South Fork District) on the east side of Old Salisbury
Road, 0.1 miles south of the intersection with West Clemmonsville Rd.
The homeplace ( which became part of Forsyth CO. when it was formed

helping the 29th Infantry Div. across the beach and on into Normandy.
Bradley Stafford managed to get ashore with the only 105 mm Howitzer
in the 29th Inf. Div.that made it to the beach. All the rest were
either lost at sea or destroyed by the Krauts before they could be
landed.
I remember seeing Bradley's cannon firing like mad when I reached the
crest of the high ground overlooking the Beach but I didn't find out
that it was Brad's cannon until after the war...told by Thomas
Stafford

returned to civilian life after the war in the Pacific ended. Parents: John Coleman Stafford and Laura Woody.

Lieutenant (Lt) on March 12, 1862. He was
promoted to 1st Lt. on July 3, 1862; promoted to Captain on September
27, 1862 and given command of Company K.
He was the sole surviving officer in Company K when he was gravely
wounded during the bloody "Battle of Fredericksburg, VA" on December
13, 1862. He was hospitalized at Lynchburg, VA and visited by his
father, General A. J. Stafford, before being
returned home to Winston where he died of his wounds shortly
afterwards, having been recognized as "A good and brave soldier." An
elegiac poem, composed in his memory by two lady admirers was
published in the "Greensboro Patriot" on Feb. 12, 1863. Parents: Almaron J. Stafford and Sarah L. Tranthm.

bullet John Monroe Stafford was born on Jun 14 1813. He was buried in Mar 1877 in Pleasant Fork Cemetery, Forsyth County. He died on Mar 1 1877. BIOGRAPHY
The evidence strongly suggests that John Monroe Stafford is the "John
M. Stafford" listed in the 1840 Stokes County (South Forks District),
NC census and in the 1850 Forsyth County ( redesignated as South Forks
Township), NC census. A study of early land transactions in Forsyth
County, 1849-1855, shows he was very active both as
a grantee and grantor. Being the oldest son of Jmes Stafford, he
likely
inherited his father's plantation in August, 1849 when James died.
Family history indicates it was John Monroe Stafford who built a house
located on the Old Salisbury Road. This house burned down in the
1890's and another was built in 1901, probably by
Willim Beeson Stafford, one of his sons. The following item included
in the "Death Notices from the Peoples Press (Salem, NC) 1851- 1892,
Compiled and Edited by Robert M. Topkins:
"STAFFORD, John M., Esq., aged 63 yrs, 8 months, and 18 days, March
1,1877, at his residence in Forsyth County. Mr. Stafford was a
prominent and useful citizen, having served his county acceptably as a
magistrate, chairman of the county court, and Senator from Stokes and
Forsyth in the state legislature.A gentleman of remarkable
energy, he accumulated a large estate and in many instances enabled
persons to secure homes for themselves and families .His remains were
interred at Pleasant Fork Church." He also was a member of the first
School Board of Superintendents for Forsyth County (1851).
John Monroe Stafford's last Will and "Final Settlement" papers make
clear he owned, at the time of death, at least 1500 acres of land,
farming equipment , horses, cattle, grain, other personal property,
promissory notes and cash on deposit in excess of
$30,000.00. At present day rates of exchange, an 1877 dollar would
purchase far, far more than a dollar does today. Because of the
devastation inflicted on the South's economy during the Civil War, the
magnitude of the estate he was able to retain and leave to his heirs,
shortly after the war ended in 1865, is astounding. It serves as a
testament to his business acumen. Parents: James Stafford and Elizabeth Monroe.

Children were: Emma L. Stafford, Elizabeth Jane Stafford, Sarah Ann Stafford, Clark Taylor MD Stafford , Abigial Minerva Stafford, Franklin Pierce Stafford, John Douglas Stafford , William Beeson Stafford, Leo Washington Stafford, Oscar M Stafford, George Louis Stafford.

his parents in Davie CO, NC when they moved to Maryland and Virginia.
He became sole owner after their death. He later sold the property to
the RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co. circa 1950. During World War II he joined
