The big moved he made was to Winston-Salem March 24, 1930 which made
his accomplishments possible. He married the girl who lived next door
to where he roomed in Winston-Salem on his first day in town. At the
age of 13 he made his confession of faith at Eaton's Baptist Church in
Davie County. This made quite an inspiration on him. When he got home
he built a dam across Howard's Branch, rounded up all the children in
the area and baptized them. In Winston-Salem he was a member of the
First baptist Church. He taught the fellowship class and served on
most of the committees. In 1921 he graduated from Buies Creek
Academy. He received his B.A. from Wake Forest College, and two years
latter an L.L.B. degree from Wake Forest. He received his license to
practice law in 1926. He became a member of the Junior Bar
Association in 1929 and became president of the Association in 1938.
In the spring of 1945, he lead the ticket for Alderman for First Ward.
He became chairman of Police Committee, Real Estate Committee and a
member of Traffic, Health and Ordinance Committee. He was the
President of Wake Forest Alumni in 1949. He also was a member of the
Board of Trustees at Campbell University. He served on the Investment
Committee, three years as chairman. He joined the staff of Piedmont
Federal Savings and Loan Association on June 1, 1928. He relinquished
