William Cheshire's Will, March 7, 1733
In the name of God, Amen. The Twelfth day of March, 1732/33, I William
Chesher of St. Mary's County being very sick and weak in body but of
perfect mind and memory Thanks be given unto God. Therefore calling
unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that
it is appointed for all men once to dye do make and ordain this my
Last Will and Testament that is to say Principally and first of all I
give and recommend my soul into the Hands of God that gave it and my
body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in Decent
Christian burial at the Discretion of my Executors nothing doubting
but at the General Resurrection I shall receive ye same again by the
mighty power of God and as touching such Worldly Estate wherewith it
has pleased God to bless me in this Life I give Devise and Dispose of
ye same in ye same following Manner and Form.
Imprimis: I give and Bequeath unto my cousin Absalom Tennisson Senr ye
one half of my Land that I now live on called or known by the name of
Pheabuses fort lying and being in
St. Mary's Conty in St. Michaels Hundred and the half that I give to
him the said
Absalom lyes toward yeland whereon Thomas Matchett now lives which
Land I do freely
give him the said Absalom Tennisson and his Heirs forever.
Item: I give and beqeath unto my son William Chesher the other half of
the said Tract of land called or known by ye Name of Phebusses Fort
lying and being in ye same County and Hundred before mentioned
adjoyning On the Land whereon Gilbert Hart now lived which Land I d
freely Give unto him ye said William Chesher and his heirs forever. I
likewise Constitute make and ordain my Brother John Chesher my sole
Executor of this my Last will and Testamt. Revoking and making void
all other former Wills by me made as Witenss my hand and Seal the Day
