bulletValentine Coone was born in 1740. BIOGRAPHY
Listed in the 1761 Rowan County Tax List of Caleb Osborn (C.R.
85.701.1, 1761, North Carolina State Archives). It appears that Valentine Coon and his family moved to Lincoln Co., NC and
probably died there. Some of his children returned to Rowan/Davie, NC
including Jacob who was married to Catharine

The following was provided by: Lpietrus@@aol.com
Valentine is the son of Michael Coon (Kuhn) and is named in his father’s will, which was probated in 1765 in Rowan Co., NC. Michael was married twice and it is believed that both wives were named Catherine. He and his family attended the Heidelburg Lutheran Church in Rowan County, NC and a record of his marriage and confirmation of his son Christopher can be found there. He appeared on 1761 Rowan County. N.C. tax list of Caleb Osborn.

After his father’s death, Valentine and his wife, Margaret, moved to Lincoln County where they owned 300 acres on Leonard’s Fork on Indian Creek. He received a patent for this land on May 15, 1772. The land was adjoining that of Henry Wortman. Apparently his son, Jacob and his wife, Catherine purchased 300 acres near him on Leonard Fork of Indian Creek and on February 22, 1788 Jacob Coon (Kuhn) and wife Catherine/Caty of Rowan County, NC sold this property. [Deed Bk 3:394].

Valentine apparently did not leave a will and the names of the children come from the church records and land records for Rowan Co., Davie Co., & Lincoln Co. It is believed that Jacob moved back to Rowan before he sold his land in Lincoln [because of the statement “of Rowan” on a deed]. Some of Jacob’s children are named in the Heidelburg Lutheran Church Records, but all of them are named in his will. The probate records for his son Jacob and George have names of persons associated with their families and Valentine and his brothers and sisters. There does not appear to be any doubt that Valentine had a son Jacob born abt 1763 and that Jacob was married first to Catherine (?) and second to Elizabeth Richards’ dau of Joseph Richard, who died in 1822 and Jacob was listed as an executor in some of the probate records.
