Kirk Anderson and his brothers, Charlie and Oscar were successful
farmers, businessmen and bank directors at Enloe, Lake Creek and
Cooper. Oscar, Kirk and their famillies made a business trip to New
York, Traveling by private rail car and staying at the Astor. They
owned a mercantile near the present Lake Creek Gin, an area known as
"Andersonville" until the post office opened. There was already
another Andersonville in Texas! Kirk built a two-story house from
seasoned pine brought to jefferson by boat. The boys grew up there,
helping with the farm chores on acreage near the home place and in the
"Sulphur Bottom". Kirk owned the first car in the area. He invented
a wheel utilizing springs instead of air. He had obtained patents and
financing to star a factory when he died in 1920. No one knew how to
continue production. A grandson Bob Anderson has the wheel model. It
had rained for days when Kirk died in Paris, TX. His body was
brought home by train on three consecutive days, but the railroad
trestle was impassable. On the third day, another train was backed
from Enloe and the boys and friends carried the casket across the
