My great grandmother, Abby Smith Harrington was the reported source of the information cited here. Since she's no longer with us, I can't go back and ask her if she's sure about what was written on the backs of these photos. I CAN tell you that the same information has led me on a number of wild goose chases, so if you find an error here, please contact me by email and I'll happily make the correction. I have already made corrections where I knew they were needed. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The following surnames are associated or allied in some manner with the people whose images are found within this site. :
Abbot, Allen, Atkins, Barber, Barnes, Blain, Borgan, Brophy, Brush, Bucknell, Bullis, Burlingame, Butcher, Clack, Cochran, Cole, Cornwell, Denison, Dusenbury (Or Duzenbury, Dusenberry, etc.), Eastman, Ehle, Elrod, Frank, Frohm, Garrett, Harrington, Heath, Hellwriggle (spelling?), Hilbert, Hill, Jackson, Keith, Kessler, Ketchum, Laker, McConell (or McConnell?), Mitchell, Morse, Moses, Nichols, Noah, Pickett or Picket, Potter, Pratt, Price, Pullen, Rice, Robinson, Rose, Shinville, Smith, Sooy, Speidel or Spidel, Tanner, Tiefental, Truax, Van Gelder, Varney, Wilcox, Williamson, Zimmerman, and Zuse.
Most of my families have early New England ties leading to Southwest Lower Michigan's Allegan County in the communities of Wayland, Dorr, and Hopkins. Upstate New York and the area in and near Geauga County, Ohio predominate the families' histories in most instances, too.
My early concentration is on placing photos left by my grandmother and her mother online, but I've also added some from my father's and my husband's Norman lines. Another special thanks is extended to newly discovered cousin, John Keith for supplying additional photos from our Smith lines.
Textual information may follow later, but I'd be delighted to exchange information with cousins in the meantime. If you feel you have a connection here or can identify any of my mystery cousins, please feel free to contact me by email:

Everybody has one and the brick wall that I'm currently obsessing over is:
LAVINA or LOVINA CHILDS
Second wife of Hezekiah Nichols who rests with him (died in 1869) at the Old Settlement Cemetery in Chester, Geauga Co., Ohio. Lovina's marriage record is elusive and I find no record of her predecessor, Lois Kelley's death. Hezekiah had at least eleven children and all of them were born in Vershire, Orange Co., Vermont between 1809 and 1830. I'd like to find out which children belong to which mother.
The names of these children are: i.....Elizabeth a.k.a. Betsey 1-17-1809 ii....Ruth 11-08-1811 iii...Lois 06-07-1813 iv....Cleora 12-16-1814 (died young) v.....Orville 10-14-1817 vi....Granville 06 15-1820 vii...Relief 05-29-1821 viii..Cleora 02-23-1823 ix....Susan 04-19-1825 x.....Carlos 02-27-1827 xi....Philura 07-30-1830

We came to this spectacular example of natural beauty as we drove out of Kirtland, Ohio on our way to Chardon. ( believe we were on Chardon Road.) This photo can not do the image justice as you may not be able to tell how large this is except for knowing that the little dot on the bridge at the far end is the roof of a car.
There are a number of trails to explore where you can get other looks at this natural marvel.
- Irene Louise Smith of Terre Haute, IN (28 KB)
I'm not sure if Irene is the little girl in the picture or if she's the mother. We have a couple of Smith lines that this child could be attached to, so if you her please contact me.
- Unknown Civil War Vet (49 KB)
Cousin John Keith of Plainwell is interested in finding out about the Civil War soldier pictured here. Expert evaluation reveals that he is a Sergeant in the uniform of what was - at the time - "a western state." Michigan WAS a "western state" at the time, so he's likely from here. The photo was found among John's Keith great-grandparent's things. I'll pass along any messages sent to me about him.

Martin and Charlie's father Samuel Harrington were brothers. Lydia was the daughter of Martin's daughter, Maud.

- Williamson picnic at Gun Lake? (34 KB)
That's a guess. A lot of my Williamson cousins were from Barry County. I can make out Fern with a coffee cup raised sitting next to husband Roy. It also looks like mean old Robert sittin on the left. Heck, the whole group seems to be having a really wonderful time, don't they?

- Young Silas Tanner of Michigan (17 KB)
"Silas Tanner" was the only thing written on the back of this photograph. Since the given name was so popular in the Tanner line, it's impossible for me to say just where this young man fits in. To complicate matters, my families have had many ties to the Tanner family on many different levels. Carlos Nichols daughter, Estelle married James Tanner, the son of Alanson Tanner and Laura Burlingame. My Mauchmar nieces and nephew even have ties to the same family on their father's side. - Bessie and George Laker in the snow (45 KB)
I just love this picture! It was beginning to fade with age, but when I scanned it and began to adjust the image a bit, I noticed that it was snowing!
The children pictured here are the half niece and half nephew of my GGgrandmother Chloe Burlingame Smith.
- Alice Ann Pickett Williamson, baby Lois, & Robert (39 KB)
We have only a couple of photos of our Pickett family (not a single one of Ensign Pickett where you can make out his face), so it's nice to have this one of his daughter, Alice Ann. She married Robert Williamson and is shown here with their baby granddaughter, Lois Kaechele.
- Sylvia Pullen Ketchum (14 KB)
I don't know too much more than just that. Sylvia Pullen would probably be related to Bennie, Beulah, and Carrie whose pictures are found on this site.
- Baby George Laker (31 KB)
It appears that George is about a year old here. He is the son of Charlie Laker and Belle Burlingame.
- Louisa Addie Burlingame Sharp (20 KB)
Known in my family as Aunt Addie Sharp, she was the daughter of William H. Burlingame and second wife Lucia Varney. Addie would have been a half sister of Chloe's and full sister of Belle's.
- Beulah and Bennie Pullen (29 KB)
To the best of my knowledge, Beulah and Bennie Pullen were not related to my family. They were neighbors of my family's and apparently very close friends.
- Unknown bride and groom (36 KB)
This portrait was created by the Kosciusrko Co. at 535 Stocking Avenue in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I suspect these were close friends of the family in Dorr Twp.
- Celia Chuchulski and James Kubiak (30 KB)
Celia was Chloe Burlingame's dearest friend. This is Celia's wedding portrait.
- Mrs. Shinville (36 KB)
"Aunt Lena's (Tina's?) Mother Mrs. Shinville, Bertha Burlingame Brophy's Grandmother," according to the back of this photo. Also on this site is another photo of her a few years later.
