24. JAMES BRANDON was born on 3 Feb 1780 in HALIFAX CO. VIRGINIA. He died in Nov 1858 in JASPER CO. GEORGIA. JAMES BRANDON, 5th child of John and Mary Lawson Brandon, was born in Halifax Co. Virginia on February 3, 1780. Shortly after James was born his parents moved to York Co. South Carolina. He married Annie Horsley, daughter of Valentine and Sarah Kendrick Horsley, on January 3rd, 1811, who was born in Halifax Co. Virginia, but this family moved with them to York Co. South Carolina

After James and Annie's 1st two children were born, (John and Alexander) they moved to Monroe, (later to become Jasper Co. Georgia) in about 1814. Valentine and Sarah Horsley was still in South Carolina as recorded in 1820 Census but soon after was in Georgia as he participated in Land Lotteries in Monroe County, Georgia in 1827 and 1838 , qualifying by right of his Revolutionary War service under General Nathaniel Greene.

John the older son, stayed and farmed near his father, married Elizabeth Henderson, and were the parents of 5 sons , John J., William J., George W., Greene B., and Thomas J. and 1 daughter Frances. John, their father died of Typhoid Fever at the age of 47, in October 1859. John J. his oldest son fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War and died of wounds and depravation shortly after the end of the war. The other sons later migrated to Arkansas, after the death of James Brandon , their grandfather in 1858 at the age of 78.

Court records of Jasper Co. reveal that James Brandon's son JAMES LAWSON BRANDON was appointed by the Court to be the administrator of the estate whereby his property was sold and divided among the survivors. { Partial list of property sold listed below

Tradition states that sons Alexander and Thomas Brandon went to Texas to fight in the Mexican War. No record of Thomas after that. Alexander came back and married Mary Henderson and was in Bienville Co. Louisiana in about 1840.

In 1850 he was listed there as head of the family, age 37 yrs. old, no wife, with children,Thomas , age 10, Joseph, 8, Mary 6, and Frances age 4, Further search revealed that a Mary Brandon of that county was listed on the 1849-50 Mortality list, as dieing of cancer.
The 1860 U.S. Census listed Alexander Brandon , age, 47, wife Nancy. age 34, son Joseph 18, daughter Mary 16, Son Francis 15, and 4 younger daughters of the second marriage no doubt. Living now in Van Zandt Co. Texas



He was married to ANNA HORSLEY (daughter of VALENTINE HORSLEY and SARAH KENDRICK) on 3 Jan 1811 in YORK CO., SOUTH CAROLINA. ANNA HORSLEY was born on 4 May 1792 in YORK CO., SOUTH CAROLINA. She died on 1 May 1881 in THE ROCK, GEORGIA. JAMES BRANDON and ANNA HORSLEY had the following children:
