Johan Boekelo (b. 10 Apr 1911, d. 06 Sep 1984)
Johan Boekelo (son of Martin Boekelo and Anna Kooi) was born 10 Apr 1911 in Dahlhausen (Germany), and died 06 Sep 1984 in Dragoodsplein 27 Leeuwarden. He married Berendina Brands, daughter of Jan Brands. and Arentjen Vinke.
Notes for Johan Boekelo:
Johann Boekelo went to school from 1917-- 1925. After his primary education he was employed from April 1925to the middle of july1926 by E. Freudenwald in Hohenstein, Sauerland, Germany.
Due to an industrial accident Johann was hospitalized from middle july1926 to about the middle of august1929. The accident left him with a permanent disability.
About 1933 Johann left Germany on the bicycle ( according to Mr Ties Boekelo in Amsterdam ) in an attempt to escape the "new order"
Johann refused to become a German citizen although he was born there.
His parents Martin Boekelo and Anna Kooi left for Germany from Groningen Holland early in their marriage.
Back in Holland, Johann became known as the "German Jo"
His German background would plague him after the Second world war.
A villager and a member of his church accused him falsely of conspiracy with the Germans and Johann spent three months in prison before they learned that it was another member of the Boekelo family that was guilty of that crime.
Johann never received an apology from this church member and that has caused him to denounce the church.
Johann was married to Aaltje Neefs but no information is known about this union.
Apparently their were no children from this marriage.
About 1944 Johann married Berendina Brands (tante Diena) There were no children from this marriage either. Johan was Tailor and had a good bus sines in Uithuizen, Groningen.
Berendina was a widow of an earlier marriage to Yde Lantinga.
Johan died at the age of 73 on September 6/1984 in Leeuwarden and is buried there in the Noorderbegraafplaats.
