Emma worked for businesses in Chicago and California, owned her own business in Buffalo for a while, and continued her trade throughout her life. She started a "fad" of paper lamp shades" at the Chicago World's Fair. Every well-adorned home had several. She had many celebrity customers while working on the west oast, including Billie Burke and Mary Pickford.
