Alfred W. Morey⁽¹¹⁰⁾ was born on 15 Nov 1907 in Cummington, MA. He died on 8 Nov 1990 in Northampton, Ma. Alfred was well-known throughout the state as a potato farmer and maple
syrup
producer. In 1934 Alfred was state winner in the 300-bushel-per-acre
potato
club contest, with an anverage yeild of 587 bushels per acre, and awarded
the
gold medal of the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture. For nine years
his
farm averaged more than 500 bushels per acre.
He was a charter member of the Mass. Maple Producers Association and at
one
time was top producer of maple syrup in Massachusetts. He was a member of
the
Cummington Grange for more than 60 years and also a member of the Pomona
Statte
and National granges. Parents: William Henry Morey and Grace M. Clark Shaw.

Calvin Morey Jr. & his wife had eleven children and four died young.
(Probably during the priod between Emeline & Philander.)
After 1839 Calvin Morey, Jr. and his family have removed to Berkshire
County, Massachusetts.

3. Of Calvin Jr. to Abigail Lake. (Abigail was the mother of Harriet Toby
Morey,
Calvin's wife. She married Mr. Lake as second husband.) July 30 1824: "A
certain piece of land which was set off to my wife Harriet from estate of
her father Miles Tobey, 17 acres, signed "Daniel Knapp" (brother-in-law)
for Calvin; Bushnell Knapp and Mr. ? Brown, for Harriet. (Calvin &
Harriet appeared at a later date, Oct 22 1829, and signed for
themselves.) 4. Of Abigail Lake to Miles Tobey, 11/1831, Miles Tobey,
Providence, RI. (Harriet's brother.) 5. Of Calvin Jr. to Francis Holt
Sept 25, 1839. (Calvin left Connecticut
shortly after this date.) This property is located about a third of a
mile
from the Massachusets border, near the property of B. Knapp; probably
2/3rds of a mile from the Baptist Church. The road this property is on
runs parallel to Borden Brook and is across the street from the old
school house. Bald Mountain is to the South West of the property...from
an old map it appears to be in a valley. In Massachusetts, Calvin Morey
Jr. and his family lived near the top of Jacob's Ladder on Rt.20 in
Becket. This house burned and he bought 250 acres on Fred Snow Road,
Becket. The house on this property was built by Mr. Childs about 1780. It
is a late colonial or early federal style. It became known as Morey Hill.
On May 9 1887 Calvin Morey Jr. deeded the main portion of Morey Hill,
about 200 acres, to his daughter, Mary E. Geer, and her husband, Willard
F. Geer, in return for supporting the Moreys for the rest of their
natural lives. After Willard Geer died in 1912, the three Geer children
inherited the property. Alice Geer Mecum and her family lived in the
house for a number of years. Ethel Mecum grew up in this house and said
that it had the last phone on the line and no electricity.
Calvin Morey jr. died during the great blizzard of '88 and it was
impossible to
have a proper funeral and burial at that time. His son-in-law Willard
Geer, dug
a shallow spot in the yard and placed his body there until the weather
cleared. Ethel Mecum said his widow could not sleep while his body was in
the yard as she feared some animal might disturb and harm it. Parents: Calvin Morey and Catherine B. Hoskins.

He was married to Harriet Tobey on 10 Mar 1822 in Canaan, CT. Children were: Olive Morey, Emeline Rebecca Morey, Philander T. Morey , Ellen Abigail Morey, William Calvin Morey, Mary Esther Morey, Harriet Lorella Morey.

Calvin Morey⁽¹¹⁰⁾ was born on 31 May 1766 in Norton, MA. He died before 1850 in Norfolk, CT. (Footnote) Regarding Calvin, See Bristol County Probate Records, Taunton,
MA: Book 23, P 540; 544; 563; 557; 564; 582: Wills, Inventories,
Accountings of Thomas Morey, Jr. and Thomas Morey, Sr. Thomas, Jr. died
in 1770. Thomas Morey, Esquire was his executor and became guardian of
Thomas's children. Nathan Morey's widow Mary, records as part of her
husbands probate, that "allowances and the legacy of 1 pair silver
buckles" have been paid to Calvin."
Book 23, pag 544: "The Account of Thomas Morey, Guardian of Calvin Morey,
a minor of Thomas Morey, Jr, late of Norton deceased with accounting
chargeth himself with the personal estate of Thomas Jr., minor as is come
to my hand and put allowance of the estate as follows: 1770:
For one pair of hose for Calvin Morey. For Doctor. For clothing. For
petty coats. New Tunick. New Clothes. 1771: Shirts & Stockings. 1771:
ditto.
1773: ditto.
General Notes on Calvin: In 1780, Calvin Morey, from Norton, MA served as
a
private in "Captain Seth Smith's Company; Col. Isaac Dean's 4th Bristol
Regiment; He also enlisted Aut 1 1780; discharged Aug 7 1780; service 9
days, on the alarm at Rhode Island of Aug. 1 1780. Roll dated Norton.
Also, Captain Josiah Keith's Co., Col Isaac Dean's Regiment; enlisted
March 4 1781, discharged March 16 1781; service 13 days. Regiment raised
in Bristol County for service at Rhode Island by order of His Excellency
John Hancock.
No death records for Calvin Morey, Sr. have yet been located, but it can
be
assumed that he died after 1823, when he turned his estate over to
Calvin,
Jr. and probably after 1830, when we find Calvin Morey in Norfolk CT
census, along with a youger Calvin Morey; and certainly prior to 1850,
when
we find his widow living in the home of her son Lyman Morey in
Farmington, CT.
Norfolk Connecticut land records indicate that the Morey family resided in
Norfolk CT between 1803, when Calvin, Sr. first purchased property in
that
town, being "from Colebrook, CT" and 1839, when Calvin Jr. sold his
property to Mr. Holt in September of that year. The 1840 Massachusetts
census lists Calvin Morey in Berkshire County. The property referred to
in the Connecticut land records was located in the north section of the
town. The Historical society of Norfolk indicates that there was a small
Baptist church serving that section of town but has long since closed. A
small portfolio of notes kept by one of it's ministers in located in the
public library, and on only one occasion does the Morey name appear,
references the birth of David Morey, son of
Calvin and Harriet Morey. (Calvin was not called "Junior" in this
reference.) Norfolk Probate records contain no reference to the Morey
Family.
