C. Morey liked to tell jokes. He was fun loving and had a hearty
laugh. His children, Olive and Dennison, inherited these traits. William C. Morey was selling books in Georgia when the Civil War broke out. With his Yankee accent, he knew he couldn't stay there, so he headed home as fast as possible. He did a lot of different jobs. He once had a contract with the Boston and Albany RR to supply charcoal for the the line. In the N. Blandford M.E. Church Records he is given as William C. Morey of Canaan, NY when he married Rachel M. Healy of Blandford at the home of Mr. D. Haley (sic) on 3-27-1862 by J. Noon. The Brockway Genealogy gives the date as 3-25-1862. (This was Canaan, CT.) While living in Blandford next to the old cheese factory, he decided that he would like to go West to seek his fortune. He got as far as Kansas and became ill. While recuperating there, he met Wright Peck of Lowell, KS and he must have mentioned his sister-in-law, Maria Healy, for Wright began corresponding with her. They married in Blandford on Jan 27 1867. Maria is supposed to have died in Kansas with her first hcild. William Morey never went on West but returned home to his family. Noted in Katie Morey's diary on June 9 1880: Father is highway surveyor and is at work on the road today. He was good at math. When Blandford was famous for its cheese, he did all the figuring needed in making the cheese. No one else in Blandford knew how. The family moved to Worthington from Blandford when Henry was 8 years old. Shortly after they moved, William C. developed arthritis in his back and was always bent thereafter.
