First wife named Sarah/Elizabeth: had two sons, Matthew III, and John.
(The three were at Guilford, /Milford, CT). Also recorded in New London,
James, Johanna, Prudence, and in Lyme, Elizabeth, Ruth and Sarah. Matthew
married firstly circa 1666 (estimated from births of children,) He
married secondly, before 1691, (estimated from birth of child) Elizabeth
(Griswold) (Rogers) Pratt. He married thirdly, before 19 Mary 1714/15,
Sarah (......) Starkey, who died after 30 Jan 1728/9.

He was married to Elizabeth about 1666 in Lyme, CT. Children were: Matthew Beckwith , James Beckwith.

bullet Matthew Beckwith(110) was born about 1610. He died on 20 Oct 1680 in New London, CT. Matthew Beckwith came to New England in about 1635 and resided at
Saybrook Point for a short time. He was in Branford in 1638, and one of
Hartford's first settlers, residing there in 1642. By 1651 he was in
Lyme where he purchased large tracts of land on the Niantic river. His
land was in both Lyme and New London. A seaman, the "Barque Endeavor" was
a ship built for him and was the first vessel ever launched from New
London. Matthew was a man of means and placed his vessel's in the hands
of competent mariner's. They traded in mercantile on behalf of their
owners. Matthew's death was sudden and the result of falling off a cliff
on Oct. 21, 1680, at the age of 70 years. A jury found his death to be
accidental. His wife was Mary. Matthew had two daughters besides his sons
Matthew, John and Joseph. His widow married Samuel Buckland. One of his
daughters married Benjamin Grant and the other Robert Gerard, but the
name of either is not seen further in the records.
Another: From History of London, pg. 299: Matthew Beckwith, 2, died
December 13, 1681: His death being sudden and the result of accident, a
jury was summoned, who gave their verdict, that "he came to his death by
mistaking his way in a dark night, and falling from a clift of rocks."
Estate 393 lbs. He lift wife Elizabeth, and children, Matthe, John,
Joseph, Benjamin, and two daughters, widows, the relicts of Robvert
Gerard (Jarret) and Benjamin Grant, both of whom were mariners, and had
probably perished at sea. (Grand died in 1670. He was the son of
Christopher Grant, of Watertown or ambridge, and left a son Benjamin, who
in 1693 was of Cambridge." No other children are mentioned in the brief
record of the settlement of the estate; but Nathaniel Beckwith, of Lyme,
may upon supposition, be included among his sons."
Virkus says Matthew Beckwith (1610-81), from Eng. to Saybrook Point, Ct
1635; later settled at Hartford, and at Lyme, CT , 1651, m Elizabeth
Marmaduke.
