Listed in the 1900 US Census as a Livery Stable Hand. Sometime between 1860 and 1865, George, Ann, along with sons William, and John V D Sommerville, moved to Keosauqua IA. In Keosauqua William met and married a woman named Nellie and in Nov, 1865 they had a son named Edward who died in infancy. After this Nellie seems to have disappeared. Since Edward is buried alone in Purdom Cemetery, it is likely that Nellie ran off with somebody.

On Oct 4, 1876, William married Hattie L Campbell, daughter of Lucy A and Issac S Campbell. In the 1880 US Census Hattie and William Sommerville and their two children, Blanche and Edith are living next door to Lucy A Campbell and her two sons. The 1900 US Census William and Hattie are still in Keosauqua and the children living with them are George, Cleo, Mildred, Phillip, and Seth. This five plus Edith and Blanche make seven, but we know that there were nine children from the Sommerville family bible. Ruth died at age 4 and Crete died at age two.
In the 1910 Iowa Census, William age 68 and Hattie age 53 are still living and their three sons are still living at home. William will die Nov 23, 1912 and Hattie on Aug 18, 1923. The Sommerville's lived in a gray cement block house in Keosauqua. It had one door on the side which opened into the kitchen. The house had two bedrooms and the only facilities were a pump in the kitchen sink. Parents: George W Sommerville and Ann Athey.
