He was married to Judith Josephson on 20 Jun 1920 in Geneva, Illinois. George was born on the family farm at LaFox, Illinois and baptized at the Methodist Episcopal Church in Elburn, Illinois, April 15, 1900. He served his country in Europe in World War I. After returning from the war, he married and moved to Detroit, Michigan, where he was a street-car motorman for many years. He and Judith retired to a small farm near Burlington, Michigan. After Judith's death, he returned to the area of his birth and married Judith's cousin, Amy Fisher, who was the widow of Ed Eygabroad. George and Amy lived in her house on the west side of St. Charles for many years, until they moved to the Geneva Manor Retirement Home.

"Mrs. Judith Elvera (Josephson) Brundige, 71, of Burlington, Mich., died Tuesday in Michigan. She was born June 28, 1896 in Geneva. Surviving are her husband, George L.; one daughter, Mrs. Alice Hendrick of Orchard Lake, Mich.; one son, Dr. John C. of LaGrange Park; and five grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Montgomery, at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Rev. James Davis of the Kaneville Methodist Church will officiate." Children were: John Brundige, Alice Brundige.

Has since been transferred to 33d Co. C.A.C. stationed at Fort Columbia Washington. The boy was born Dec. 15th 1891 and will not be eighteen until next Dec. He joined without my knowledge or consent; no papers were ever submitted to me. Knowing that at that age, he does not know what is good for him, and not wanting him to remain in the Army, I ask you to assist to secure his discharge. Will you please let me know if I can count on your services, or if there is anything more for me to do. Have written to the commander, and stated the above.

"Those of you who have seen Clyde Brundage at his post as telegrapher at the Santa Fe, all these 21 years, are perhaps unaware of the rather thrilling experience of his earlier days and we think you will be interested to hear of them.

Born in Geneva, Ill., in 1891, he began work as a telegraph operator with the Chicago Northwestern when he was only 17. He later joined the Marines and served several months on the island of Guam as a wireless telegrapher. He witnessed the sinking of the old German Cormoran vessel and was one of the guards who brought many of the German war prisoners to Fort Douglas at Salt Lake City.

He received his discharge at Mare Island, and upon his return to his home in Illinois, re-enlisted in World War I, in the Telephone and Signal Corps Division 415 and spent 17 months overseas. After returning in 1918, he resumed his work with the railroads, with an interim in Alaska as a wireless operator for a gold mining company.

Later he lcoated in Fullerton with the Santa Fe. About that time he and Miss Alta Besier of Monroe, Mich., were married, in 1925, and Fullerton has been their home ever since. After all those 17 years of lonely Guam, war experiences, and more war experiences, and Alaska gold mines, one can see how happy he was with a home, and family, and church, and friends."

"Clyde J. Brundige Died in California

Relatives and friends in this vicinity were shocked to receive the news of the death of Clyde J. Brundige at Fullerton, California, where he has been living in recent years. Mr. Brundige was returning home Monday evening when he suffered a fatal heart attack. Mr. Brundige was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Brundige of LaFox and Geneva. Both his parents and one sister, Lyla B. Shafer, preceded him in death. He attended school in LaFox and Geneva. He was a veteran of World War I, having served in many parts of the world as a wireless operator.

Surviving Mr. Brundige are his wife, Alta, two daughters, Joy and Lois, all of Fullerton; three sisters, Mrs. D.C. Divine of LaFox; Lottie B. Lane of Huntington Park, California; Vera B. Haines of Aurora; and two brothers, Charles of Huntington Park and George of Detroit, Michigan." Children were: Lois Ellen Brundige, Joy Ann Brundige.

She was married to George McGuffin Wise Private. Children were: Cynthia Jan Wise , Theresa Marie Wise, Michael George Wise, Susan Eileen Wise.

He was married to Emma Hathaway on 31 Dec 1764 in LaFox, Illinois.⁽³⁴⁵⁷⁾ Obituary:

"Levi Brundige, probably Geneva's oldest citizen in number of years residence, dropped dead in a barn at his home four miles west of Geneva, yesterday afternoon at 5 o'clock. A stroke of apoplexy killed him. His end was not unexpected by the members of the immediate family as he had been under the care of a physician for 18 mo following a slight stroke.

Mr. Brundige was born near Cushing, Ontario [should read Quebec] Canada 73 years ago and came to this area with his family... Because of his advanced age and physical condition his wife and members of his family watched him closely. Always active, he continued up to the last months of life up and around the farm and the buildings. It was his wife who found him breathing his last a few seconds after he dropped yesterday.

He is survived by one son Paul, his wife who lives on the farm, two sisters Mrs. John Cole of Geneva and Mrs. Charles Monroe of Elburn, and two brothers John C. Brundige of Geneva and Portland Brundige of Litchfield, Nebr.

Pending receipt of word from the brother in the west, the funeral arrangements hav enot yet been completed, and will be announced later. Children were: Paul Brundige.

She was married to Edgar Courier on 16 May 1871.⁽³⁴⁵⁹⁾ Edgar Courier was for sometime a prisoner in Andersonville, Georgia, during the Civil War. A carpenter found some of his letter while remodeling the Brundige home near LaFox, where Marilda was born; unfortunately, the carpenter kept the letters.

Marilda died of consumption (tuberculosis) as did four of her sisters Adeline, Amanda, Melissa, and Mary Jane.

Mr. Courier was a very pleasant man but didn't do well at earning a living. After the mother's death, the girls were often at their grandmother's. He would come to see them on his bicycle. They called him the old grey devil.

Marion had polio but lated died of consumption, and was buried in California.

Obituary of Marilda B. Courier:

"Another to go hence, a few days ago, was Mrs. Marilda Brundige-Courier, wife of Edgar L. Courier of Sugar Grove and daughter of Levi Brundige, Sr. and Charlotte Smith Brundige of this place. Mrs. Courier was born in St. Charles Jan 9, 1847, but lived for a number of years and until her marriage in this neighborhood. She had lived in the west and Iowa and a number of years at Moline, Ill, last spring moving to Sugar Grove. She had been in failing health for several years past, but was about until a few hours before death. She leaves a husband, two daughters, an aged father and mother, two brothers and two sisters in this vicinity and a brother and sister in the west. Four sisters have been claimed by the fatal consumption. Though coming here but seldom of late years, and that on brief visits to the aged father and mother; both past the ages of 85 years, she is favorably and well remembered by those which were here before her marriage and consequent change of residence, and all extend their sympathy to those who must most nearly feel the loss of one of their number.

Those who knew her best and last, speak of her patience and cheer while knowingly facing increasing weakness and pain, and the parting that each day brought nearer. with admiration and deep respect, and for her to 'all is well'.

"Mrs. Marilda B. Currier, wife of Edgar L. Currier, late of Aurora, died at 2:30 this morning, January 22, 1898, ... at her home in Sugar Grove, of consumption... Interment at the Garfield Cemetery in Camption.... Her illness covered a period of several years. The family, after a residence of 12 or 14 years in Moline, came to Aurora in the fall of 1896, and moved to Sugar Grove last May." Children were: Marion C. Courier, Geraldine "Jay" Courier.

She was married to John B. Cole on 13 Feb 1876 in LaFox, Illinois.⁽³⁴⁶⁰⁾ John Cole farmed for many years in Sugar Grove, Illinois. He was a fine man when he lived on the farm. It was on that farm that John Brundige, his wife's brother, met his future wife, Christine Linington, a teacher who boarded there. After John Cole retired, he moved to Geneva, met the wrong people, and his wife died a very unhappy death. He married again, lost all his money, and came back to live with his son until he died.

Edward L. Cole worked on the trains in Wheaton, Illinois. He was a bookkeeper. His wife Gene was a Registered Nurse who had graduated from Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago. They met when she was caring for Ed's mother before she died. Gene died at Aurora Manor Nursing Home.

Ellen Ann died of tuberculosis. Children were: Edward L. Cole.

She was married to Gary Freier Private. Children were: Tracy Freier.

She was married to Dallas Gregory on 12 Apr 1865. ⁽³⁴⁶¹⁾ Dallas Gregory, who married Melissa Brundige, was a telegrapher for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. Children were: Zelma Gregory, Ralph Gregory.

He was married to Mary Scott on 16 Sep 1915. Children were: Bruce Scott Brundige.

He was married to Betty Jane Burton on 16 Jan 1876 in York, Nebraska. ⁽³⁴⁶²⁾ Portland Brundige was born on the Brundige family farm at LaFox, Illinois, but moved to York, Nebraska. He and his family returned to Illinois for a visit in about 1923, and their son Cecil visited LaFox in 1938. Their great-granddaughter Elaine Menke visited LaFox while she was a nursing student at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Children were: Jessie Brundige, Ernest Brundige, Louisa Brundige, Levi Clayton Brundige, Cecil Brundige.
