From Genealogy: pg 4: Savage says John Comstock, who came to Weymouth, MA
in
1639, sat down at Saybrook, east part, and had Abigail, b. 12 April 1662.

apprenticed to Henry Russell while in Weymouth, MA.
Court records now on file at the State Library, Hartford, show that his
estate
was settled JUne 4 1681, and the widow made administratrix, and "desires
Mr.
Noyce (Noyes) , her father Chappell, and Mr. Edward Shipman assist her."
"Feb 13 1666, John Comstock was a signer of Articles of Agreement to the
separation of the town of Lyme from Saybrook." (The Harvey Book," p.
581.)

plaintiff, contra John Comstock, defendant, in an action of debt to the

of 10 pounds.

youngest daughters; Ruth to have a cow; daughter Abigail to keep what she
has; a cow to wife until daughter Mary is of age; lands to sons John,
William,
Samuel; eldest son John, executor. Inventory April 27 1728, 723 pounds, 1
sh. 7
pence. Parents: John Comstock and Abigail Chappell.

bullet William Comstock(110) was born about 1595 in Curry Rivel, Dorset, England. He died about 1683 in Lyme, CT. William Comstock was of New London as early as 1649; had land at
Wethersfield
in 1641. He lived to old age in his house upon Post Hill. That his wife
Elizabeth was aged 55 in 1663, of course b. in 1608, and "a foreigner";
his
lands at New London were inherited by his son Daniel, and William, son of
his
son John, dec'd of Lyme.
In Devonshire, England, there is a little village called Culmstock, with
a few
hundred inhabitants, lying on the small stream Culm, from which it
derives its
name, It is called Colmstocke in the Domesday Book in the time of William
the
Cnqueor. From this village the name Comstock is doubltess derived. Exeter
is
about 20 miles from Culmstock.
The History of Taunton (10 miles from Culmstock) gives among the early
priors
of Taunton, Richard de Colmstock, elected 1325.; Ralph de Colmstock,
elected
1331. (These quotations show the name existed in England at the time of
the
Settlement of New England.: Marianna Combstock, 1595; Joannes Combstock,
1597;
etc."
William m. Elizabeth Daniel(2nd). Stiles (History of Wethersfield) says
we may
be
pretty sure that William Comstock was among the 26 from Wethersfield, CT
in the
expedition commanded by Cpt John Mason which capured the Peauot Fort at
Mystic
in 1637, killing about 500 Indians.
William had children John and Daniel. John was at Weymouth in 1639, then
went
to Saybrook, east part; now Lyme.
History of New London, pg. 305 says "William Constock the father of
Daniel,
came from Hartford in 1649 and lived to old age in his house upon Post
HIll;
(near north corner of Williams and Vauxhall Streets.) No record has been
found
of the death of either. (His wife was Elizabeth, aged 55 in 1663. ) His
land
was i herited by his son Daniel, of New London, and grandson, William, of
Lyme.
