"DIVINE ELEZAR, Farmer, Sec. 14; P.O. Sycamore; born in Sullivan Co. N.Y. March 1, 1820; lived there 32 years; came to this town, county and state in 1852, and has lived here 24 years; Dem; Lib; owns 600 acres land, $30,000; has been School Director and Road-master; married Miss Sallie Ann Sheley, March 12, 1840; she was born in Sullivan Co. N.Y.; has seven children, four boys and three girls."

Jim and John Divine were identical twins. Their wives were sisters. They lived in the area of Sycamore, Illinois. It was said that before they were married, they would go on dates pretending to be the other one, and the girls didn't know the difference. Children were: Nancy Divine, Mary Divine, David Divine, Francis "Frank" Divine, James Divine , John Divine, Eunice Divine.

"'Open House' was graciously extended to the community on Sunday afternoon, February 8th from 2 to 5 at the charming home of Mr. and Mrs. Earle Divine in honor of the 90th birthday anniversary of Mr. Mack Divine. About 120 local friends came to extend hearty congratulations and best wishes. Tasty refreshments were served during the course of the afternoon by Mrs. Edna Thorpe, Miss Bertha Harter and Mrs. J. H. Shanard. Mrs. Ralph Harter registered the guests.

"Mack Divine was born in Ulster county, New York, February 8, 1863. When he was about 15 years old he moved with his family to Illinois where they lived near the little town of Burlington. In 1886 the family came to Dakota Territory. Mr. Divine vividly recalls the many hardships of those pioneer days especially those of the 1888 blizzard. After a couple of years, the family returned to Illinois where in March 1891 Mr. Divine and Emily Dettmer were married. In 1901 Mr. and Mrs. Divine came back to Bridgewater where they have made their home continuously for 52 years." Parents: *Peter Divine and *Katherine A. "Kate" Decker.
