Page 621: "Richard L. Divine... His grandfather, Joseph Divine, who is his earliest ancestor now traceable, removed with his family from Plattekill, Ulster Co., N.Y., in 1794, to Sullivan County and located in the western part of the township of Fallsburg, the place where he settled soon afterward taking the name of Divine's Corners. At the time of his removal there he was the first white settler, his nearest neighbor being four miles distant. His demise occurred in 1802.

"Srgt. John ... had a son Joseph who moved through Illinois and eventually settled at Divine Corners, (Illsdale), Hillsdale County, Michigan.... Joseph was a Capt. in the War of 1812 and received a grant in the Michigan territory as a result of his father and grandfather's service in the colonial wars. Capt. Joseph had 14 children. One of these, Daniel lived on a part of the family farm which extended down into the lower reaches of Michigan. It extended so far south in fact, that in 1832, it was declared to be in the State of Illinois when the land boundary was settled. Parents: John Divine and Jane Walker.
