"Francis Jepson and his wife Betsy, who was my great grandmother, came to the West from Vermont in 1839 and a few years later returned to the East for a visit. When they came back to Illinois, they brought much nursery stock and started a little nursery. Many of the early orchards were set from these trees. Besides apple trees, no doubt they brought cherry trees, currant and gooseberries and rhubarb. Mrs. Jepson brought some red peony roots."
