Alma: "Judson Higgins, my father was only married once and his wife Miss
Almira Alice Hayden. He died at the age of 38 years leaving wife and five
children, only one of which was old enough to work. (15). He died about 6
months later with lock jar. This of course broke up our family and we
were ? for several years and finally drifted to Springfield after we were
all grown up and married. Mother married the second time to a Mr. P. M.
Wells of Hatfield, a very fine man but he only lived a short time after.
Eugene Lyman Higgins died quite young and is buried in the family lot in
W. Chesterfield, and it was who named the twins in our family Clarence
Eugene and Clayton Lyman. (I didn't intend to put in so much of our
family history when I started in.) There was a Cynthia Cole and also a
Mrs. Davis that came to the reunion but we don't see to remember their
connection to the Higgins family. I asked Helen Sylvester about them but
she couldn't place them either. The only one I can't think of - that
might know is Rose Ormsby and I think at the present time she is with her
brother Arthur. He lives in Roslindale, MA. This may clear up some of the

"Dear Alma, I have been intending to write you for a long time. Your
letter written to me some time ago was so interesting. You were telling
me what you did with the money from Uncle Louis' estate. I added some to
mine and bought a farm. It is a lovely place about 5 miles from
Scottsbluff, on the paved highway (NEb.) Last year we put it in good
order and it certainly looks nice. We painted the house and barn and all
the other buildings white with a green roof. It has brought in a good
return on our money and has increased quite a bit in value, so I guess we
made a good investment. My older daughter, Mary Louise, has been married
nearly three years and is living in Fort Morgan, Colorade. Her husband is
a fieldman for the Great Western Sugar Co., which is the company Mr.
Roach has been with so long.
Betty is just finishing her first year at the U . of Neb. She had had a
very happy and busy year. She joined the Pi Beta Phi soroity and when she
was initiated she won the pearls in her pin that are given each year by
the Alumni to the pledge with the most outside activities. She will be
home June 4th and we are counting the days.
We talked for a while of coming East again this summer, but have been
planning lately of going in the other direction and spending our vacation
in California. If we had gone East, we were going to try and attend the
Higgins Reunion. I have never been to one and I think it would be very
interesting. Maybe we can do it some other year. Where is Uncle Lonnie
now? I was glad to have news of him. The last letter I had from him was
from Florida and he seemed so contented I have felt very happy about him.
