The following was sent to me by Kathy Jillson Serre of Adams, Mass. and appeared in a Whitingham, Vt. newspaper in 1876.

" PLEASANT FAMILY REUNION"
"one of the largest family gatherings held in this vicinity, assembled on Friday, Feb. 11th, 1876, at the residence of Timothy Jillson, Esq., situated about two and one-half miles from Readsboro city. Forty-five persons were present consisting of Mr. Jillson, his children, Grand-children, Great Grand-children, a reporter from the Greenfield Gazette, and your correspondent, who was present by special invitation. This family is one of the oldest, largest and most respected in the town of Whitingham, and the occasion was one of more than usual interest on account of its being the first time that the family had ever been together as one--all those now living being present except a grand-child.
Mr. Jillson senior, was born in Guilford, Vt., March 11th, 1796, and when six years of age, with his parents removed to the town where he now lives, and has spent his life there. At the age of 24 he was marriied to Sylvia Olden of Whitingham, with whom he lived fifty-three years. Mrs. Jillson died Nov. 5, 1873. They lived the old-fashioned way, in a house built [now standing] early in the century, having never used a stove. The old way of cooking and heating their dwelling by means of the fireplace was continued until the death of Mrs. Jillson, and on the day of this gathering the dinner was served in the old kitchen by the side of the fireplace fire. In the War of 1812, Mr. Jillson was a member of a regiment which served three months upon garrison duty in Boston. His father, David, was a Revolutionary soldier and was one of the forces sought to be betrayed into British hands by the treason of Benedict Arnold. The old gentleman used to tell with a great deal of enthusiasm about his being sold once for the sum of six-pence, about eight cents, nearly, of our currency. Mr. and Mrs. Jillson were blessed with eight children, Joseph, Sarah, James, Lewis, Samuel C., David, Horace T., and Daniel. Of these Joseph, Horace, Lewis, Samuel, and David were soldiers in the war of the Rebellion. Joseph fell a victim of Libby prison; Horace died in a hospital at Washington soon after enlistment, while the remaining three lived to return. David was in twenty-seven different battles, among which are Winchester, Cedar Creek, the taking of Richmond, and was with Phil Sheridan in the Shenandoah Valley, but came out without a scratch. Joseph was a member of Co. C, 6th Vt., Horace of Co. E, 11th Vt., Lewis, Samuel and David of Company F, 34th Mass. The names of those present on this occasion by families are as follows:

Mrs. Cynthia C. Coonrod Jillson, [widow of Joseph], and children Lewis H., Charles T., Sarah M., Mary S., Mr. James, Mrs. Estina P. Dix Jillson and children Eli J., Ellen L., Uberto C., Emma S., Janie M., Murray E., Newton S.

Mrs. Elvira S. Chase Jillson [widow of Lewis], and children Linus A., Walter L., Maria C., Arthur G., Clara L., Frank W., Wesley J., Elmer L., Morgan I.

Mr. Samuel C., Mrs. Chloe S. Hart Jillson and children Alvin F., Clark, Sarah E., John.

Mr. David, Mrs. Fidelia Burrows Jillson and son Horace.

Mr. Daniel, Mrs. Melissa L. Pike and son Lester D.

Of the third and dourth generations there were present: Mr. Geo. E. and Mrs. Ellen L. Jillson Dix.

Mr. Henry, Mrs. Sarah M. Jillson McClenn and children Lillie V., Willie L.

At four o'clock a New England dinner of "ye olden time" was served. The courses were in part--babed pork and beans, potatoes and fish, doughnuts sweetened with W. I. molasses, rye and Indian bread, etc., etc., not excepting the mug of cider. The dishes were the old style, and three full tables of fifteen partook amid surroundings fac simile of one hundred years ago. The faithful and trusty rifles were hung over the fireplace, the powder horns hanging near, while in the corner the ancient clock marked the happy moments, flying oh too swiftly. In the evening the younger members "tripped the light fantastic toe" to the music furnished by one of their own number. The aged sire of this influential family seemed to renew his age and participated in the gambols of his great grand-children, as well as the more sedate amusements of his grand-children, not more, however, than enjoyment listening to the stories of family adventures and pride of his surviving children now gathered under the roof of the old homestead for the first, and in all probability the last, time. At the request of Miss Emma Jillson and Mrs. Sarah Dix, Mr. John Dyer read a witty and entertaining paper, which had been prepared and read before the Readsboro City Lyceum. Seldom, we imagine, has there of late years been a gathering of this character where the surroundings contributed more to harmonize the spirit of the occasion than this, and additional zest was ginen the affair from the fact that it was gotten up as a surprise to the old gentleman."

It was indeed the last time, Timothy died a little more than a year later.
