Ambrose was "baptized at the house of his parents in the presence of several
witnesses. Sponsors: Ambrose and Jeanne Sicard. The sponsors are to take the
child to the church on the 4th of Sept. and have him enrolled after the lecture
of the evening." F.G.S. of Mrs. Wing; Pomeroy Ladue Manuscript; research done by
Mrs. Shari Humpherys Franke, Ogden, UT; and Mrs. George Schmid, Riverside, CT.
Ambrose was named in his mother's will in 1714.
Note: Ambrose was found in the land records of Simsbury, Hartford, CT from
1733-1751, along with his mother, Marthe Anneraud Ladou Syderfelt and his
stepfather, Major Abraham Syderfelt. In the Town Records of Simsbury, Ambrose
Ladow was chosen "Ward and Poundkeeper" for year ensuing Dec. 19, 1737;
He was chosen "Fenceviewer" for the year ensuing 12 Dec. 1738, and Dec. 1739.
There was a Judgment against him in Feb. 1752 in Simsbury, and
thereafter, he disappeared from the land records there.
In 1754 he appeared on the Rombout, Dutchess, N.Y. tax list. (If that
Ambrose is this same one.) He and Temperance probably had a family, but no
children listed in Simsbury Town Records. If there were children, their names
are unknown to me. Parents: Pierre Ladou and Marthe Anneraud.

He was married to Temperance Buttolph about 1732 in of, Simsbury, Hartford, CT.

he and wife Mary removed from New Rochelle to Mt. Pleasant (Philipse Manor,)
Westchester, N.Y. about 1750. Info on his death from his gravestone, aged 73

taxpayer's list. Note: One correspondent said Stephen Ladow married twice, and
that the descendants of the second wife were living in Plymouth, Ohio in 1886.
Info also from Manuscript "The American Ancestors of Otto Budd Ladue" by Dr.
Roland M. Whittaker, Fishkill, N.Y. (now deceased--1993). He states that
"Estienne "Stephen" may have gone to Northern N.Y. after the death of his wife
in 1747, to join sons of his near Half Moon" (Saratoga Co., N.Y.)
A note in the Ladow Box at the N.Y.Gen.& Bio. Lib, N.Y.C., by Mabel Ladue
Pryor, says that Estienne "Stephen" was the first to locate in Dutchess County.
His sons occupied lease or tenant farms in Johnsville (Dutchess) N.Y.
until after the Revolution when they purchased them."
Note: There is record of a Jemima Ladoe who married John Ward 28 Nov 1759,
Rombout Presbyterian Church, Dutchess Co., N.Y. and a Martha Ladoe who married
Abraham Weeks, 20 Feb 1755, Rombout Presbyterian Church. These two girls are
probably daughters of Stephen Ladou and Sarah. No proof at this time. (1993)
(Stephen, Jr. named a daughter Jemima and a daughter Martha--named after his

Pierre purchased land in New Rochelle from the widow of Josias LeVilain in
1697. He and his family appear on a Census of New Rochelle for 1698 and for
1710. On 4 Apr 1701 he was designated Supervisor of Highways. On 1 Apr 1710
was named Assessor for New Rochelle. Some info for Pierre Ladou and family from
Manuscript "The American Ancestory of Otto Budd Ladue, written by Dr. Roland M.
Whittaker of Fishkill, N.Y. (now deceased--1993). This info furnished me
by Mrs. Marlene Carpenter, Lancaster, Pa.
Note: There is an old story which says that Pierre and Marthe fled from France
to escape the persecutions there, and had themselves sealed up in hogsheads
(barrels) and came to New Rochelle, Westchester, N.Y. They were French
Huguenots.

England, To N.Y.C, to New Rochelle, N.Y. by 1698, died 1714.

Pierre named on his mother's Will in 1714. There is record in Westchester Co.,
N.Y. of Peter selling land in 1732 to an Anthony Lispenard, Jr. He is listed as
a blacksmith of Manner Pelham. He also appeared briefly in Simsbury,
Hartford, Conn. with his mother and stepfather.
Then he sold his land, and it is not certain where he went. Don't know about
a possible wife or children. In the "Ladow" box at the N.Y. Gen.& Bio. Lib,
N.Y., there is record of his birth and death from a very old tombstone found in
a Fishkill cemetery. Only it says he was born 6 Dec 1704, which I believe must
be in error because of the census record for New Rochelle which says he was

Pleasant, Westchester, NY. He was buried in Old Presby.Cmtry, Sparta Ossining, Westchester, NY. !Info on Abraham's birth and christening from Trinity Par. Church, New Rochelle,
Westchester, N.Y. He was "presented for baptism by his father Daniel LaDoux and
Aunt Lucreece Canby, godfather and godmother." (Abraham was probably named for
his stepgrandfather, (Maj.) Abraham Syderfelt.)
His Will was dated 12 Jun 1799, Westchester Co. Probate, Liber B, p. 225.
Abraham was a blacksmith. His tombstone says he was age 72 yrs, 4 mos, and 5
days. He also served in the Revolution as Ensign in the Dutchess Co. Militia,
2nd Regiment, under Col. Abraham Brinckerhoff. He bought a farm in the town of
Mt. Pleasant from the Commissioners of Forfeiture in 1786. It was no doubt a
farm which he had occupied as a tenant of Lord Philipse. Info on Abraham also
