1. JOHN² MCLUCAS (ARCHIBALD¹)¹ was born Abt. 1781 in Isle of Mull, Argyll, Scotland, and died July 07, 1860 in Clarence Town, NSW, Australia. He married FLORA KENNEDY Abt. 1809 in Kilmore, Isle of Mull, Scotland, daughter of LACHLAN KENNEDY and CATHERINE MCLUKAIS/MCDOUGALL. She was born Abt. 1794 in Isle of Mull, Argyll, Scotland, and died Abt. 1850 in Clarence Town, NSW, Australia.

Notes for JOHN MCLUCAS:
Name is variously spelt Maclucais, Maclucas etc and is the same name in Mull as McDougall. However, this branch seems to have held to the old spelling. Mother's maiden name, Kilpatrick is rare in Mull and probably reflects the place in Torosay parish where her family came from.

Emigrated to Australia with familyfrom Tobermory on the George Fife in 1840, settling in the Morpeth/Hinton/Clarence Town region of the Hunter Valley, NSW. Died 7 July 1860 in Clarence Town. Age on the shipping report (48) is probably wrong by 10 years.

Family were clearance victims who shipped from Tobermory in 1839, arriving in Sydney in January 1840 under the Bounty scheme of Rev. John Dunmore Lang. Information on family supplied by Vickey Cubis, Coffs Harbour, NSW. IGI and NSW records not always helpful, but according to Jo Currie who has studied names in Mull, this branch of the McLucases probably lived in or near Inivea and Caliach in Kilninian and Kilmore parish, close to Calgary Bay, from where many of the early Mull clearances took place.

Notes for FLORA KENNEDY:
Emigrated to Australia to NSW, arriving January 1840, with her husband and nine children. Age on the shipping record into Sydney is clearly wrong. She was probably 45 not 35 and thus married in about 1810.

A possible marriage for her parents, spelt Lauchlan Kennedy and Catherine Maclukais, is in the IGI for 4 May 1786. She probably had an older sister Margaret. On the shipping report in 1840, her parents are listed as Lachlan Kennedy and Kitty McDougall.

This seems probably a second marriage for John McLucas - first children are too old.

Notes for CHRISTINA MCLUCAS:
A Christina McLucais was christened 18 November 1809, Kilninian and Kilmore parish. Next recorded birth for a child of John and Flora is about 1815. Parents recorded as John McLucais and Flora Kennedy in the IGI. Is this the Christina on the shipping report in 1840 who according to her recorded age on the shipping report (26) , would have been born about 1813?

May be a case of mis-reporting her age - she would have been 30 in 1840 if she had been born in 1809.

Christened Kilninian and Kilmore parish, 7 July 1815. Possibly did not come to Australia in 1839 - already married? Parents are John McLucash /FloryKennedy in the IGI.

Notes for LACHLAN MCLUCAS:
Was 20 on arrival in Sydney in 1840. Highly speculative date of marriage and death come from NSW records - parents recorded as unknown on the death entry. A Lachlan McLucas married a Margaret MacGilvray in 1867, however if this is the same Lachlan, then he married very late. No children in NSW recorded from the marriage.

Notes for MARY MCLUCAS:
Is there a second Mary? This Mary was christened 20 May 1821, in Kilninian and Kilmore parish, Isle of Mull; parents John McLucash/Flora in the IGI. She may not be the Mary who emigrated, who was 23 in 1840 (born about 1813. This Mary may have died.

Notes for ALEXANDER MCLUCAS:
Christened 24 July 1823, Kilninian and Kilmore. McLucash/Flory in the IGI. May have died before family left for Australia - not on family list from Vickey Cubis, but in Jo Currie's Mull family records - or possibly remained in Mull.

Speculative marriage to Margaret MacIntosh, 22 May 1841 in Jura. Alexander's name is McLucash in this record.

RODERICK MCLUCAS, b. 1826, Isle of Mull, Argyll, Scotland.

Notes for RODERICK MCLUCAS:
Christened Kilninian and Kilmore parish 18 March 1826. McLucash/Flory in the IGI. On arrival in Sydney 1840 was 13.
