6. Benjamin BUCK
(1).
An interesting story can be assembled from the recording of his will in The York
County Records Book. According to the deposition of his brother, Thomas, Benjamin
had been very ill and "had something to say before he went out of this world."
Benjamin then dicated his will to Thomas and asked that it be put in writing.
Since Thomas could not write, he had their brother, Nathaniel, come to Benjamin's
house to write the will. By the time Nathaniel arrived, Benjamin was almost
speechless; he died the next day. Thomas then repeated Benjamin's dictation
to Nathaniel who wrote it down. Thomas then took the paper written by Nathaniel
to "Mr. William Barber and desired him to put the said words in form of
a will".
Although unlikely, he may be the Benjamin Buck who is referred to in the will
of John Daniel of York, VA, made January 5, 1685 and proved May 24, 1689: "If
wife dies, loving friends Mr. Benjamin Buck and Mr. Edward Bruce to look after
my children."
from "Genealogies of Virginia Families", Vol. I, from Tyler's Quarterly
Historical and Genealogical Magazine, Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., 1981.
If so, he was a relatively young man judging by the approximate ages and dates
available.
