New: In addition to many corrections, the branches of the Swiss Rothenberger family and the Thuringian Bock family have been added.

Other than correcting some errors and adding some recent developments, I have added new information about the Meyer-Elfanbaum and the De Vries-Molenkamp branches, and most spectacularly, the Bügel-Houwink branch, which now reaches back eighteen generations, to an ancient ancestor known as Olde Remmo, who lived in the 15th century. Much of the latter branch was copied from Klaas Jansen's genealogy site, to which I have added a link. I'm also - again - grateful for the help received from Doris Kohn, her husband and her sisters, and for the overwhelmingly enthusiastic responses from (almost) everyone else.
When I started this project, my purpose was to build a family tree which was to include the ancestors of my daughter Daria-Rosemary Bugel-Shunra. This research brought me to the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, and the Ukraine. The oldest branches of this tree reach eighteen generations back to the 15th century, to a man who was known even to his contemporaries as 'Olde Remmo', and who lived in the peat bogs East of Groningen.
In the course of my work, I have made extensive use of research done by other people, who made it possible for me to incorporate their data into my own project.
In particular, I am grateful to the work done by my grandmother, Elisabeth Johanna (Großmuetti) Niederer, Doris Hoffman, Albert Andrist and Klaas Jansen, who did most of the hard work. Without their efforts, this database would never have been possible. Since I first published this page, I have received a great deal of positive feedback, additions, and corrections. I am grateful for those additions, too
As much of the data has never been electronically published, and as most of it would not show in my initial ancestry-focussed concept, I have chosen 4 of my daughter's ancestors, and uploaded to this site the trees with their descendants, which will lead to cousins, many of whom I have never met, although this might change. If you find your name here and would like to be in touch, just send a message to daniel@shunra.net, I'm only a few clicks away!
And of course, genealogical projects are never perfect, and they're never completed. I am always grateful for feedback and corrections. If any visitor wishes to see more remote branches included, I will appreciate receiving the information in a gedcom files. However, I will be glad to do this myself for data about people who are not too remote from my initial ancestry-focussed project.
I am particularly interested in information about the following people and their ancestors:
- Hermann Buri (g5) - Ludwig Friedrich Kunz (g6) - David Gershovitz, and his wife, Rose Resnikovitz (g5) - Louis Levine, and his wife, Libby Slotnick (g5) - Itzak Maier Lokszentop, and his wife Anna Golda Elfanbaum (g5) - Meyer Hoffman, and his wife, Beila Sprintze (g5) - David Ben-Kiki, and his wife, Rauha-Lilja Anneli Syväntö (g3)
Also, I'd be glad to incorporate information about the younger generations. Please feel free to send me feedback!
