6. Stephen Decatur BUTLER was born in 1820 in Virginia. He died on 3 Nov 1851 in Carrsville, Isle of Wight, VA. He was buried in Windsor, Isle of Wight, VA. (4) Buried in the family cemetery in a field at the Knoxville Cross Roads farm on US Route 258 between Walters and Windsor, VA Carr interview with Buna Mae Butler Johnson, Audrey Carr, Baxter Carr, Jr., and Vicki Carr Ringo provided the following information: The story that has been told through generations is that Stepehn Decatur Butler had been over in Carrsville around the railroad tracks and he had heard somebody arguing in a boxcar. He stuck his head around to see who it was and they hit him in the head with an ax handle or something and he died.
Grandpa Dick (his son) was quoted as saying he was just so curious, he had stuck his nose in where it didn't need to be and he got hit in the head and died.

He was married to Elizabeth HOLLAND (daughter of James HOLLAND and Tressie [HOLLAND]) on 11 Nov 1845. Elizabeth HOLLAND was born on 19 Nov 1804 in Virginia. She died on 29 Dec 1885 in Windsor, Isle of Wight, VA. She was buried in Windsor, Isle of Wight, VA.(4) Buried in the family cemetery in a field at the Knoxville Cross Roads farm on US Route 258 between Walters and Windsor, VA Carr genealogy chart shows that she was known as BETSEY BUTLER.

Carr interview with Buna Mae Butler Johnson, Audrey Carr, Baxter Carr, Jr and Vicki Carr Ringo provided the following: Apparently she had two children with her first husband, Miles Powell: 1 son and 1 daughter. The son's name was William. The daughters's name is not known. During the 1850 census there was a William Powell living in the county that was about 16 years old and he was living as a laborer on somebody else's farm. When Stephen Decatur Butler died, she took over running the farm. Thereafter she was listed as the farmer in the census records. Stephen Decatur BUTLER and Elizabeth HOLLAND had the following children:
