46. John HOLLAND ⁽¹⁾ was born about 1494 in Norfolk, England. ⁽¹⁾ A family of Holland's settled in Norfolk, claimed descent from the Lancashire Hollands of Denton, and bore as arms the lion and lilies, with motto, "Secreta mea mihi". Their claim was vouched for and pedigree given in the 16th century "Visitations of Norfolk" (Harleian Society, vol. xxxii, p158). (The Lancashire Hollands 1917).
