Notes for Peter Carter: Peter inherited one half of the 304-acre plantation his father had bought in 1724 in the mouth of Carter's Run on the upper Rappahannock River in King George County. In Th 1858 account of the Carter family (Miller,p. 225) it is stated that Peter Carter purchased the rest of the plantation(Brother Edward was the other Legett) and lived here until late in life...with his son George Carter. The Miller account says he removed to Fauquier county, but more probably the name of the county simply changed to Fauquier name of the county was probably changed from King George to Prince William in 1731. Peter took possession of it in 1734 or 1735
