In 1931 they returned to Carlisle. Eber built his own home in 1935 in which they lived until going to Messiah Village in 1983.
Eber operated a dairy until about 1942 when it was closed due to some suspicious contamination of the milk. He and Alice opened Lehman Children's Store in Carlisle in 1944 which then became Lehman's Fashions until it was sold in 1969. Alice was a co-owner and operator of the business. Eber and Alice spent one year, 1971-72, at Macha in Zambia, Africa where Eber supervised building a number of school buildings.

Both Eber and Alice were very active in the Carlisle BIC church. Eber was a long time deacon and trustee of the church. Children were: Robert Byers Lehman, Dale Byers Lehman, Doris Ann Lehman, Ruth Anna Lehman.

He learned the Tsonga language before he learned English, later adding Afrikaans, Zulu, and Swazi to his linguistic accomplishments. Before he could yield to God's call to be a missionary, he had to be sure he was not just doing what was expected of him because his parents and grandparents were missionaries to South Africa. Linda Cheney met Orai at Bartlesville Wesleyan College. She grew up on a Nebraska farm as one of ten children, three of whom became Wesleyan missionaries to South Africa. Orai and Linda were married in 1966 and graduated from Bartlesville Wesleyan College with B.A. degrees in religion in 1967. They left in 1968 to be missionaries in Swaziland. During their years of working with the gold miners in Johannesburg, they had the privilege to minister to men from Mozambique. After the conclusion of the civil war, they were able to move to Mozambique in 1995 to engage in church planting and leadership development. Children were: Valarie Ann Lehman, Michael Vernon Lehman, Paul Andrew Lehman.

Edna carried on the dairy business with the assistance of Eber and Jesse for about 4 years until Eber bought it in 1935. Children were: Joseph Edward Lehman, Lee Richard Lehman.

After 13 years as a psychiatric technician at Patton State Hospital, Bob worked 24 years with San Bernardino County in social services. Eleanor also worked as an eligibility officer in the same office for 17 years. Children were: Dale Eugene Lehman, Ross Edwin Lehman, Mark Everet Lehman.
