(Barbara Crider Byer's birth date is 3/14/1861). Nora was 24 years old when she married John Byers, Jr. a farmer. John was also a Yorker. As a Yorker, the family used horse and buggies (no cars), did not use telephones and the women wore shawls (no coats). Carrie was 3 months old when her father died (1905). Carrie and Alice went with their mother to live with their Worthington grandparents. Hiram Worthington built four rooms on to their house to accommodate their daughter Nora and her children. Nora secured a job as a practical nurse in the community to help support her children. When Carrie was about 7 years old, Nora married Clarence Elmer Snoke. Alice accepted this marriage immediately, but Carrie did not. Copnsequently Alice lived with her mother and stepfather and Carrie remained for a time with her Worthington grandparents.As a result of the declining health of Amanda Worthington, Carrie went with her mother, stepfather and Alice at their farm. For some reason, the Snoke family left their farm and moved to Shippensburg, PA, only to move shortly thereafter to Messiah Academy and Missionary Training Home in Grantham, PA about 1914/1915. Both parents worked at the boarding school. Nora Effie was born while the family lived in Grantham.

The family lived at Grantham for 5 years and then moved to Mechaniscburg, PA. Clarence Snoke worked at a mill in the country while living in Mechanicsburg and the girls went to the Mechanicsburg schools.

The Snoke family moved to Florida in 1924 with three other families. The families were as follows: (1) Snokes, (2) Joseph Lehman family (with their daughter, Grace; their son Eber and his wife Alice Byers Lehman) and (3) Walter and Maggie Miller. They traveled from Pennsylvania to Florida in 3 cars. The Snoke and Lehman families were Brethren in Christ and the Millers were Church of the Brethren. They lived in the Cocoa Beach, Florida area and then later moved to the Orlando, Florida area. Nora and Clarence and the Lehmans went back to Florida sometime after Carrie and Floyd's marriage in 1929 due to the onset of the Depression in order to secure work. Parents: Hiram G. Worthington and Amanda Jane Rife.
