Daniel Kilcrease (son of Robert Kilcrease and Martha) was born 13 Mar 1788 in Edgefield Co., S.C., and died Sep 1887 in Georgia. He married Elizabeth White.

Daniel and Elizabeth had ten children. Daniel served in the War of 1812 in Capt. William Huckaby's Company, GA. Militia. He was in Butts Co.GA in 1850. Daniel enlisted into the CSA (Schley Co. GA) on Feb. 2, 1862 in A Co. 27th Inf. Reg. GA as a private. He surrendered at Greensboro S.C. on April 26, 1865 as Corporal. In the 1850 census it shows Daniel at the age of 31 or 34. Daniel's father was Robert Kilcrease and Martha(LNU) Daniel left Edgefield, S.C. around 1805 for Butts Co.GA. Butts Co. had a land lottery that he participated in. He met Elizabeth there and married her. After Daniel died she remarried. Daniel served three months as a soldier in the War of 1812 and deserted and did not return to his GA Reg. As this was at the end of the war, he probably did not get into trouble. Daniel got his promotion because he could read and write. Found in History of Schley Co., Dan Kilcrease 1827 listed as resident. In 1827, Dan settled at Pond Town (located where the county courthouse now stands). It was a relay station for the stagecoach that ran from Hamburg, Pond Town and Preston across the Flint River at Traveler's Rest below Oglethorpe and on to Tallahassee. The highway was known as the Hawthrone Trail. Dan had settled about 6 miles east of Pond Town. A county was eventually formed from this town and is call Schley county.

27th Reg., GA Infantry
27th Infantry Reg formed at Camp Stevens, GA, during the summer of 1861, contained men from Pike, Bibb, Jackson, Taylor, Talbot, Appling, Quitman and Clay counties. Ordered to Virginia the regiment totalled 428 men in April 1862 and was assigned to General Featherston's and Colquitt's Brigade. It was prominent on many battlefields from Williamsburg to Chancellorsville, then moved to Charleston, S.C. and later to Florida. After the fight at Olustee the 27th returned to Virginia. Here it saw action at Drewry's Bluff and Cold Harbor and in the long Petersburg siege north of the James River. At Seven Pines it lost almost forty percent of the 392 engaged, had 9 killed and 76 wounded at Gaines' Mill, 15 killed and 89 wounded during the Maryland Campaign. It sustained 31 casualties at Chancellorsville and 74 at Olustee. In 1865 the unit participated in the Battle of Bentonville and surrendered with the Army of Tennessee. Its commanders were Colonels Levi B. Smith and Charles T. Zachry, Lieutenant Colonels Septimus L. Brewer, Hezekiah Bussey, Jasper N. Dorsay, James Gardner, William H. Rentfro and John W. Stubbs, Majors Charles J. Dennis, Henry B. Holliday. Living in Jasper Co.,GA in 1821 Land Lottery and Arthur and Daniel Kilcrease found living in Butts Co. GA in the 1828 Tax List.
