Ellison was the oldest of six brothers, good at handling boys, horses, and dogs, a rather quiet man but firm when the occasion demanded. He was a farmer first, renting farms most of the time but owned at least two, 20 acres south west of Twin Falls, Idaho in 1937 and a large farm north east of Gooding, Idaho in 1935.
During World War 2 Ellison worked in a shipyard in Vancouver, Washington as a Fireman on small aircraft Carriers during their test runs. He had experience in handling steam power, first in Kansas as a young man working with the steam engines used to power stationary grain thrashing machines, also in Idaho.
At age 76 Ellison was helping his brother John Ray Holloway move houses. On June 4, 1975, Ellison was 84 years old and had quit work. A letter recieved from his sister, Mrs Marie (Holloway) Larison says she took him to the doctor and he hadn't been feeling good for some time. He had been living the last few years with his sister, Mrs Lula (Holloway) Slack in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Ellison died at Twin Falls, Idaho after a short illness and was buried in the Sunset Memorial Park cemetery in Twin Falls. Six of his grandsons were pall-bearers; Clinton Holloway, Mike Edwards, Gaylin Childers, Rod Childers, Randy Edwards, and Don Holloway.
