Whilst felling a tree at the bottom of Brookhouse Hill he was killed as the falling tree struck him. The eldest child, Hannah, was mentally handicapped.

38. ZENAS5 MARSDEN (BENJAMIN4, LUKE3, RICHARD2, ROBERT1) was born 1843, and died 5 February 1900. He met ELIZABETH HUDSON. She was born 1842, and died 12 February 1885.

Notes for ZENAS MARSDEN:
Zenas was a large jolly man, who enjoyed playing the fiddle and was also a member of the Fulwood Cricket team.

Was a farm labourer at Redmires and also at Bennet Grange during his marriage, it was whilst living at Carr Houses that his wife died in childbirth.

Later in life when the Sportsman Inn at Lodge Moor became vacant including a few acres of land with buildings for livestock, Zenas became the next occupier.

He was a religious man and attended Fulwood church regularly. When the vicar heard of Zenas taking over at the Inn, he approached him questioning as to why he was doing such a thing. Zenas replied "If I don't take to it someone else will and didn't Jesus love to be with the publicans and sinners?"

39. LUKE5 MARSDEN (BENJAMIN4, LUKE3, RICHARD2, ROBERT1) was born 1846, and died 3 May 1892. He met ELIZA ?. She was born 1849, and died 23 May 1919.

Marriage Notes for LUKE MARSDEN and ELIZA ?:
When first married Luke and his wife lived at Jeffrey Green Farm, where five children were born, moving to Wiggins Farm around 1882, where four more children were born. In 1890 Luke and Eliza succeeded his father to Fulwood Grange, but Luke's stay at the Grange proved to be a shortlived one for he died and was laid to rest on 3rd May 1892.

Eliza was left with the 62 acre farm, four sons and five daughters and furthermore she was six months pregnant. This child was on August 25th and she called him none other than Luke. She carried on at the farm with the help of her family supplying the Fulwood Cottage Homes and the Lodge Moor Hospital with milk. Eliza lived 27 years after her husband and towards the end of her days she lived amongst her daughters, who by this time were married and had families of their own. Her last days were spent at her daughter Mary's home iat Moorfield Farm.
