David was born at the old homestead in 1716 and died there 100 yearslater, in1815. It appears that the old homestead is where his father settled in Pennsylvania. It was called Menullen Township - Lancaster County. In 1749 it was called York and in 1800 Adams County. David served in the following public positions: Held King's Commission as sheriff of Lancaster County prior to 1740. He was the first treasurer of York County 1749-1752. Collector of excise, 1749-1756 inclusive. Member of the Provincial Assembly 1752-1764. Chosen Treasurer for two years in Oct. 1764. On Nov. 13, 1775, David and his brother, Samuel McConaughy, became members of the Committee of Safety for York County. At the first meeting David was chosen a member of the Committee of Correspondence. He was also a Justice of the Peace in 1776-1777. His name appears, too, among the delegates to the Convention of Associated Battalions, held in Lancaster, July 4, 1776. He was then 60 years of age and is registered on the Convention roll as a private of the Second Battalion, York County.
