John Millard (b. 13 Jul 1842, d. 01 Apr 1921)

John Millard (son of Milo Millard and Sarah Ann Brown) was born 13 Jul 1842 in Lenox, MA²⁰⁷, and died 01 Apr 1921 in Lee, MA²⁰⁸. He married Elizabeth Perry on 16 Oct 1865 in Lee, MA²⁰⁸.

29 Dec 1913 applied for an increase in his pension. DOB stated in that report is 13 Jul1842.

US Pension file:

"That there is no record of the date of his birth in Pittsfield where he was born, that he was always told when a boy that his birthday was July 13th, and it was recorded in the Bible as the date of his birth July 13th 1842."

That his father's name was Milo Millard and his mother's name was Sarah Ann Brown Millard. That his father and mother both died when he was small, and he lived with Titus Parker in Pittsfield Mass. until the death of said Titus Parker, and was there with him in 1850. After Titus Parker died he came to Lee, Mass. to live with Titus Parkers son Ephraim Parker and was with him in 1860, and was working sawing lumber. In 1862 he lived in Lee and worked in Paper Mill. That he thinks he gave his age as 20 when he enlisted in 1862."

"Mr. John Millard was a member of Company B 37th Massachusetts Inf., and a bunk-mate of mine. while near Fisher's Hill, VA about October 1864, he was thrown from a mule, and received an injury to his hip.

Also, while on the march from Petersburg to Danville, and while in the front of Petersburg in the winter and spring of 1864/5 he contracted rheumatism and a disease of the rectum affecting his spine. He is totally unable to perform manual labor (This is written by another person, but is dictated personally by the signer myself. Owing to an injury. I can write but very little.)
