He married (1) MARTHA S. GRISHAM/GRISSAM September 15, 1865 in Christian Co., Kentucky. She died October 23, 1868 in Christian Co. Kentucky. He married (2) MARY ELIZA BOYD May 25, 1869 in Near Hopkinsville, Kentucky, daughter of IRVIN BOYD and LUCY ESTES. She was born June 16, 1846 in Christian Co. Kentucky, and died July 3, 1913 in Hailey, Idaho.

ILLIAM FRANKLIN MCATEE:
1. Civil War Veteran-Service from Sep 1861 to Jan 1865. Was a Private in Co. A, 25th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry, USV. Was later a 1st Sgt in Co. G, 17th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry, USV. The 25th & 17th Regiments were consolidated after the Battle of Shiloh. He was never wounded, but received bullet holes through his coat. Was hospitalized for measles while pursuing General Braxton Bragg, CSA, in Kentucky
in Aug-Sep 1862....was sent back to picket duty before fully recovered that resulted in future serious health problems. Major Battles in which he served: Ft. Donelson, Shiloh (Peach Orchard and Bloody Pond), Chickamaugua, Missionary Ridge, Atlanta Campaign, Franklin/Nashville. His pay was stopped twice for loss of canteen and haversack during the war with the cost being deducted from his pay. Regiment was mustered out of Federal service at Louisville, KY on Jan 28, 1865. Regimental statistics: Total enlistments = 1473, All Casualties = 661
2. William was orphaned in 1841. Family oral history recalls his parents were murdered. William related they were killed by "bushwhackers" which is a term more timely to Civil War era in which he served. (no other details known) Trigg County courts made him a ward of James E. Inlow/(Enlow when William was an infant. Ref. Trigg Co. Court Order Book "C", pg 205. William apparently lived with the Enlow's until age of supporting himself. James Inlow/Enlow buried in the Inlow/Enlow Cemetery near Hopkinsville, KY. James Inlow/Enlow was born Jun 27, 1799 and died Nov 21, 1868.
3. Veteran's Pension, Claim # 849989, submitted July/Oct, 1890 - was not approved until Jun 5, 1895.
4. Gravesite at Twin Mounds (Old Pioneer) Cemetery, NW Section, Lot 473. Headstone Reads the following: "At Rest" across the top over a carving of an angel above an open gate; "W. F. McAtee, born June 28, 1840"; "died Sep 15, 1895"; "55 y's, 2 Mo & 18 d"; "A precious one from us is gone..A voice we loved is stilled". The remainder of the verse is hidden by a low concrete fence around the plot. There is a rose bush planted just east of the headstone.

1. 1900 US Census, Indian Territory, Vol 15, Edition 57 (Township 17, NR13E, Creek Nation, Sheet 12, Line 49 reads Mary E. McAtee, age 53, two minor children: Thomas Dudley-born 1879/KY and Walter Leonard-born 1883/KY.
2. Same Census, Sheet 15, Line 24: Millard McAtee, age 23-born 1876/TX (actually was born in Kentucky), Wyatt I. McAtee, age 26-born 1874/KY. Both enumerated with William Rockwell, brother-in-law.
3. Between 1902 and 1910, Mary Eliza Boyd McAtee left Oklahoma and homesteaded land in the Wood River Vally of south central Idaho near the town of Bellevue. She contracted Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, died, and was buried at Bellevue on July 1913. She was a strong and determined individual so typical of the Scots-Irish pioneer women, yet a very petite person at 4 ft, 11 inches, weighed less than 100 lbs and wore a size 3 shoe.
4. Buried in Bellevue Cemetery, Bellvue, Idaho.
5. Veterans Widow Pension #429558-commenced on Oct 4, 1895 for herself and sons Thomas Dudley and Walter Leonard McAtee. Pension ceased on Sep 6, 1913 upon her death.
