 Includes NotesNotes for Robert Hardacre:
Bob was the sexton at Brownedge and we have photos of him digging a grave and tending the grapes in the church greenhouse. The story goes that when King George VI died, a young boy saw Bob in the graveyard and shouted to him that the king had died. Bob replied "Aye, well don't bring the bugger here".
I remember him as a bit of a scary character and when he came to see me at Nana's with a bar of chocolate, he used the crook of his walking stick to pull me towards him.
I remember when he died and the family went to the house where he used to live at Clayton le Woods where all his possessions were auctioned among the family. I remember beech trees and bluebells.
