34. Charles RUBY Jr. was living in 1820 in Washington Co. KY.⁽²⁰⁸⁾ He died before 1850 in NC. Not in 1850 Wash. Co. census with Susan. -Parentage speculative.
-Believed to have lived in Chaplin, Mason County, KY. Brother possibly Perry Ruby, also of Chaplin, KY. First cousins to John Ruby, grandfather of Zula Mae Ruby Rowland, Springfield, KY (from information taken in 1983 by Mrs. Rowland from backs of old photographs of Charles and Perry Ruby. He was married to Susannah "Anna" BURNS on Apr 7 1809 in Washington Co. KY.⁽²⁰⁹⁾⁽²¹⁰⁾⁽²¹¹⁾ Wash. Co. Marriages, Bk 1-90.

35. Susannah "Anna" BURNS was born in 1787 in Burke Co. NC. She died on Sep 16 1854 in Washington Co. KY. -Also, "Byrn."
-Will dated March 29, 1866, Will Book N, page 4, filed at Washington County Courthouse, Springfield KY., named 9 distributive beneficiaries: Eliza Ruby Coslow (wife of Joel Coslow); John Ruby; Elizabeth Ruby Basham (wife of Charles Basham); Margaret Ruby Burns (wife of Edward Burns); William Ruby; George Ruby; James Ruby; Vardamon Ruby; and Millie Ruby Smithart (wife of John Smithart). From North Carolina; could not read or write. [Note: Susannah died in 1854; more likely that her estate was probated in 1856, not "signed in 1866," unless delayed for guardianship?]

-Two slaves sold at estate sale: Silas, age 31, $1,000 girl , age 12, $ 700. Children were:

i. John RUBY was born about 1812 in KY.⁽²¹²⁾ He died after 1854.⁽²¹³⁾ Probable -- based on Susan Burns' will.
ii. Vardeman RUBY was born about 1814 in KY.⁽²¹⁴⁾⁽²¹⁵⁾ He died before 1853.⁽²¹⁶⁾⁽²¹⁷⁾⁽²¹⁸⁾
iii. George RUBY was born about 1815.⁽²¹⁹⁾ Probable -- based on Susan Burns' will.
17 iv. Elizabeth Jane "Eliza" RUBY.
v. Millicent S.W. "Millie" RUBY was born on Nov 26 1829 in Washington Co. KY.⁽²²⁰⁾ She died in Jul 1854 in IA.⁽²²¹⁾ Of erypolus (?). Married by Rev. David Bruner.
vi. James E. RUBY Sr.⁽²²²⁾⁽²²³⁾ was born on Aug 18 1831.⁽²²⁴⁾⁽²²⁵⁾⁽²²⁶⁾ He died on Jan 22 1900.⁽²²⁷⁾ He was buried in Perkins Cemetery, Washington Co. KY. -Mary A. (Lawson) McMullin was residing in James' house in 1860. Apparently, James remarried after Mary died in 1876, there is a "Charles E." there in the 1880 Wash. Co. census, 1 year old, also a "Mary E., 3/12 Sep."
vii. Margaret RUBY was born about 1810 in KY.⁽²²⁸⁾ Probable -- based on Susan Burns' will.
viii. Elizabeth RUBY.
ix. William RUBY. Probable -- based on Susannah's will.
