930. Dr. Pierre CHASTAIN Sr. was born in 1659 in Charost, Province de Berri, France. (1462) He was christened on Apr 9 1659 in Issoudon, Indre, France. (1463) He was living before 1696 in Baillage de Vevey, Canton Vaud, Switzerland.(1464) He was living in 1699 in Wallone, Leiden, Netherlands. (1465) He immigrated on Jul 23 1700 to Manakintown VA. (1466)(1467) -Four ships, the Mary and Anne (250 tons; George Haws, captain), the Peter and Anthony (arrived Sep 1700), Galley of London, and the Nassau, brought the major portion of French Huguenots to VA during 1700. There is some question whether Pierre and family were on the first ship, the Mary and Ann, or the fourth (there were Chastains on both vessels); most American sources, however, have him on the Mary and Ann. In either case, Pierre and his wife, Susanne Reynaud, and children are presumed to have departed Gravesend, England, 19 Apr 1700 on the Mary and Ann, arriving at the mouth of the James River on 12 Jul 1700.
He Owned Robert, a Negro between 1714 and 1717. (1468) He was elected/appointed Church Warden between 1718 and 1720. (1469) He died on Oct 3 1728 in King William Parish, Goochland Co. VA.(1470) He executed a will on Oct 3 1728.(1471) He had an estate probated on Nov 20 1728.(1472) Real estate- 1,154 acres. He was a Surgeon and barber. (1473) He was buried in Monocan Farm, Manakintown VA. He was married to Anne SOBLET before Nov 1701 in Manakintown VA. (1474)

931. Anne SOBLET was born about 1675 in Sedan, Champagne France. (1475) She was christened on Oct 27 1675 in Sedan, Champagne (now Ardennes), France.(1476) She died on Apr 3 1723 in Manakintown VA.(1477) She was buried on Apr 4 1723. Children were:

child i. Judith CHASTAIN(1478) was born about 1703 in Manakintown VA.(1479) She died between 1765 and 1784 in Lucy's Springs, Chesterfield Co. VA. (1480) Possible marriage to Stephen Pankey, insufficient proof.
child ii. Susanna CHASTAIN was born in 1705 in Manakintown VA. (1481)
child iii. Pierre CHASTAIN Jr.(1482) was born in 1707 in Manakintown VA.(1483) He died after 1775 in VA.(1484) Place probable. Marriage to Middy possible.
child iv. Mary CHASTAIN was born in 1709 in Manakintown VA. (1485) She died before Jun 15 1731 in Goochland Co. VA. (1486) Died young.
child v. Elizabeth CHASTAIN was born in 1711 in Manakintown VA. (1487)
child vi. René CHASTAIN Sr. was born in 1713 in Manakintown VA. (1488) He was elected/appointed Vestryman & Church Warden, King William Parish VA between 1737 and 1744. He died in 1786 in Edgefield Dist. SC.(1489) He executed a will on Jan 7 1786.(1490) In the name of God Amen. I Rame Chastain of the State of South Carolina, being in perfect sound mind and memory, do make and constitute and appoint this may last will and testament in manner and form following, viz: principally I recommend my Soul to God that gave it and my body to the earth, to be buried at the discretion of my executors, hereafter named as to my worldly estate I dispose of it in the following manner:
Item. I give and bequeath unto my son Peter Chastain, six negroes named Jack, Charles, Bill, Frank, Rachel and Sam to him and his Heirs forever.
Item. I give and bequeath unto Grandson (?) Chastain, one man names Horace and horse to the value of ten pounds.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my grandaughter Sarah Chastain, two negroes one named Mary and one named Charity to her and heirs forever.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my grandaughter Jane Chastain, one negro named Mollie to them and theirs.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Jude Winfree, one negro named David at her disposal.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my grandaughter Janie Winfree, two negroes named Absolem and one named Nanne to her and heirs lawfully befotten of her body.
In case any one of my daughter should die without an heir lawfully of her body, the share to return to my son and daughter in Virginia, and what money to be raised out of my household goods and horses, cattle and hogs, and all my tools must be sold for money giving one year credit. The money so arising must be lent to my son Rame Chastain and Makinne to divide between.
And I do constitute and ordain D. Leroy Hammond and Peter Chastain my son to be my sole Executors of this my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and fixed my seal the twenty-seventh of January 1786.
